This is Tim Rideout, speaking just a week ago at the SSRG conference, about how his big idea was to reject a one-day redenomination of bank deposits. Then yesterday, Tim unveiled the Laurentjoye report, which proposes exactly that: a one-day automatic redenomination of deposits.

Humza Yousaf complaining that 99% of the meetings he goes to are full of white people is ridiculous.
Scotland was 99% white until relatively recently. Of course the senior positions were held by white people. Does anyone moan that community leaders in Nigeria are too Black? Or that meetings in China are too Asian?
Funny how it’s only white countries that get told their demographics are a problem.
Katharine Birbalsingh is right to call this out.

Interesting row developing between GB News and Ofcom.
GB News is accusing the media regulator of suppressing its own research showing that the channel's viewers rate it more highly for trustworthiness than BBC viewers rate the BBC.
Ofcom says the omission was due to methodological changes, while delayed publication of the underlying data was an administrative error.
But here's the interesting bit.
The Government is considering proposals to give prominence to supposedly 'trusted' news providers on social media.
If Ofcom is going to help shape that debate, surely transparency and consistency in how it presents its own research are essential.

GB News has launched an attack on Ofcom amid a deepening row over data showing how trusted the channel is by its viewers.

The thing is, Mike, we aren't that fussed when we are in the queue at Tesco. We are a bit more worried if the person with a penis is in the locked female psychiatric ward, prison, changing room.
I KNOW! Context is really hard to understand.
Man meets man in supermarket and nothing happens so we should change society and allow men in woman only spaces. Don’t be an asshole like spinless Mike who also handle responses.

BRITAIN AND FRANCE — some thoughts.
British and French politics are now moving in different directions.
Macron destroyed the French centre-left/right parties in the 2017 presidential election. They have never recovered. But Macron’s centrist movement hasn’t filled the vacuum.
Nor, even as his failures multiplied over almost a decade, was there a renaissance of the centre left/left but the rise of more extremes — Mélenchon’s LFI on the Left, Le Pen’s RN on the Right.
Latest polls indicate they will juke it out in the presidential 2nd round next May — with Le Pen the easy winner.
In Britain the rise of Reform on the Right and the Greens on the Left since the 2024 election + the collapse of Labour/Tories in the polls suggested, if not a Left/Right polarisation like France, then a new politics of multi-party democracy.
But 2026 brought a major correction — it’s been a dire year for Reform and the Greens, whereas Labour/Tories (but especially Labour under Burnham) have enjoyed something of a renaissance from their polling nadirs.
So, as French politics increasingly becomes a choice between populist Left and Right, the mainstream centre left/right has become once again the story in British politics.
With the most recent polls showing Labour in the lead, the Tories second, Reform third (and still slipping), Greens nowhere (along with LDs).
At the moment Labour must be favourite to win an election (at least end up the largest party).
Of course Labour/Tories are still a long way off their former dominance in share of the vote. But they are, at least for now, on the way back, which is more than can be said for their French counterparts.

Tim Rideout always insisted a new currency could be established with conversion of deposits purely voluntary. But Laurentjoye’s report kills that idea (it always was mad). Deposits convert automatically “without the consent of each customer”. Good luck selling that to voters…

For the avoidance of doubt (since some have been asking), the 800 on the Scottish public payroll without proper jobs does NOT include the 129 MSPs in Holyrood 🤣🤣🤣
Astounding Sunday Times investigation reveals new scandal in SNP’s Socialist Scotland:
800 NHS, central government, council and quango workers whose jobs no longer exist but remain on the public payroll because of the SNP’s ‘no public-sector redundancy’ policy.
Estimated cost of paying people to do nothing: £27m a year.
One NHS Highland worker has been receiving a full salary and benefits for 17 years despite not having a specific job.
The health board refused to say what the worker had been doing for almost two decades and how much they had been paid.
Likely cost to the taxpayer is expected to be far higher with several public bodies refusing to disclose salaries for hundreds of the workers awaiting redeployment.

This is such a brilliant point.
Well done, Dr Tad 😇
One of the most interesting features of our post-Covid era is that it’s perfectly fine to have been “traumatised” and/or “harmed” by the socially destructive effects of lockdowns & other restrictions, but only if you were in favour of them.

Significant story. The SNP’s no-redundancy policy has seen £27m a year paid to people whose job has gone but have yet to be redeployed.
Major investigation from The Sunday Times - the Scottish state is paying a minimum of £27m a year to around 800 public sector workers, in the NHS, councils, police etc who do not have a job, but they cannot be made redundant owing to SNP policy
