At the time of the first Earth Day in 1970, the Osprey was endangered in North America. It made a strong comeback after certain pesticides were banned. So did Brown Pelican, Peregrine Falcon, and others. Conservation efforts work, and they're worth it. #EarthDay

Birding community, I'm looking for someone who studies the history of women in birding/ornithology. I'm doing research for a new talk and my Birder's Book Club is now on its third book and the conversations are getting really deep around women being undervalued in science.

I love your dogs. But this isn’t a good time to have your dogs off leash in unexpected places. There are birds that nest on the ground- and people like me who you might not see because I’ve stepped six feet off the trail to give you space.

I didn’t really have a “spark bird” but if I had to choose it would be seeing my first blackburnian warbler @BirdsofVermont in high school—that throat, that song, the affinity for piney ridges, everything. So seeing 5+ today in Andean cloud forest was especially mind-blowing
