.@obsdmd and @arcinternet has spoiled me for multi column windows... each time I go into an app that DOESN'T have this ability, I'm just like *sigh* okay, let's do this the long way 😁.
I do wonder who the 0.356 of a person is and whether they're okay 😁
Side note isn't it funny how ~40% feels low, but also that's 486(.0356) people who at least opened the email, it's probably not 100% accurate... and "conversions" could be better. It's still nice to know 486.0356 people had it open, if not for a brief second 😁
Notion Templates vs Reality
So Notion templates are great... but they're nothing but a snapshot.
Don't think that your own system should work like a Notion template does.
Business is messy and your Notion can be messy too.
At the end of the day, it needs to suit your needs!
Been having a lot of fun running D&D for a group of business owners in Europe and the US... and @obsdmd still comes up trumps in terms of being able to and structure how I setup all the potential plotlines.
It could be... but also... for me it's actually the opposite. I've got a washing machine going right now – I feel "more focused" than I am in silence.
Here's my thinking out loud-self organised thoughts
When I'm in silence I'm more sensitive and attuned to the quietest of noises around me. The fridge clicks suddenly, I can be surprised by that and it has the potential to draw my attention :)
If I approach it from an EcoPsyc lens vs a CogPsyc, which I assume this paper is based on.
We can remove some assumptions around a "cognitive function", and return to the relationship between the person (organism) and enviroment (my kitchen)
We all detect and exploit information differently and with Autism it's to thought I have difficulty/difference in interpreting the information in the environment. (
So for my own lived experience, when it's silent, I hear electric plugs buzzing, I hear the slightest of noises, fridge clicking etc.
They're all attracting my attention, wheras with a consistent noise, such as a washing machine or similar appliance. I focus/attune to it at first but then something else attracts my focus/attention and influences my behaviour.
Although I will say as I'm discussing the washing machine, I'm more attuned to the washing machine... so perhaps there's something to be said...
So is Noise a secret destroyer of productivity... It feels like it's only a small part of the puzzle. Noise doesn't cause reduced productivity, but it's a piece of a larger puzzle that needs exploring. 🤔
Noise is a secret destroyer of productivity.
It is secret because it impacts cognition, not effort, so we don’t notice, but a 10db noise increase (from a dishwasher to a vacuum) lowers productivity by 5%. Noise is also greater in poorer neighborhoods... joshuatdean.com/wp-content/u…
People who work for an employer AND are Self Employed.
I'd love to know a little bit about your experience through doing both... especially if you've got family/other responsibilities!
So... @morgencalendar is coming after Motion... and I am ALL for it. *rushes to DM's*
Yes… and this can only occur due to understanding the needs of the user, and what they need to work in a way that works for them.
For some it’s less customisability, like Andrew here and for me… it’s @obsdmd & @morgencalendar because flexibility, and speed suits my needs 😊
Hot Take:
People with checklists complete their work 40% faster But 99% of them are making their checklists wrong.
Here's the secret...
...
...
...
*pause to get your attention*
1. That 40% was just some random percentage I choose to make you look at the tweet (calling it a tweet don't care).
2. The real essence of having a sexy checklist in a moleskin book is setting up an an environment tailored for your goals.
The only wrong way is... believing there's a one-size-fits-all approach to it. 😉
Everything is dependent on what your needs are at any given time... sometimes that checklist makes me 99% more likely to get sweet f-a done. Because I'm too busy making a freaking checklist 😁
Now, picture a minimalist MoleskineTM notebook here. Because, obviously, that makes me look super productive, right?📓🙄
How is this… good? I love me some AI… and love saving myself some time, but this doesn’t feel like it saves time. It feels like it’s creating low effort content for the sake of… what?
Yes… sure you can do this?
But… why? For what purpose?
This is ridiculously helpful + the video as well. Looking forward to exploring Formulas 2.0.
For power users, it's incredible and for non-power users... it is still optional.
.style and .current are probably gonna be my favourite functions based on how I used to use Notion 😁

Video games are fine! Studies measuring real players playing games find small to no effects.
In fact, gaming is correlated with slightly higher happiness & (in a small study) families who gamed together were happier.
And there is no link between violent games & real aggression.
I love running D&D in person and @obsdmd makes it effortless.
I still roll, and track initiative IRL, but having creature stats at a glance, is so helpful!
I started with @n_vanderhoeven’s TTRPG Vault… and as I’ve learnt more about D&D and DM-ing I’ve adapted it to my style
It was amazing! There’s me in the blue at the front next to the orange of @DannyHatcher.

This is deliciously nerdy... I love the use of webhooks and a formula property to create "triggers", so good! :)
Replying to @automatednotion
Self: "Hey, while you're hyper-focused. Let's make a video BEFORE running to Twitter to share."
Me: "Fine!" 🙄

Previously ChatGPT never really returned anything valuable when searching for Ecological Dynamics (went straight for Ecology... vs what @DannyHatcher and I chat about on The PKM Podcast!
But now ChatGPT has access to the internet... how well will it do.
I remain suspicious 😁
Meanwhile in another tab... Why hello @elicitorg this is kinda cool 😁
