Take a deep breath
Has Trumps Hamiltonian agenda ended? No
If Democrats control the House and Senate with a Republican president, the Hamiltonian economic agenda stays largely intact.
The One Big Beautiful Bill’s permanent tax structure and production incentives are already law. Tariffs continue under existing executive authorities.
A Democratic Congress can pass bills to reverse either; it cannot override a veto. Gridlock freezes the existing framework.
New legislative expansions become harder. The core, tax permanence, industrial tariffs, and production emphasis, does not get rolled back.
IMHO what the election signals is a desire to end the Iran Conflict and focus on affordability issues.
My stream of consciousness takeaways tonight:
1. I don’t have a future as a political prognosticator.
2. It’s too easy to reside unwittingly in a cozy partisan bubble on X. Need to expand my content universe.
3. Republicans fell into the “we won both houses of Congress and the Presidency so can push everything to 11” trap. Political restraint is a rare quality on both sides of the aisle.
4. Republicans lost their younger supporters primarily because of the Iran war and related economic turmoil (that’s what my 20-something boys told me in the last few weeks and they just didn’t show up).
5. Frustratingly, pollsters will feel vindicated.
Some other random musings:
1. It will be interesting to see where Trump goes from here. Look for a rapid (premature?) resolution in Iran, and an acceleration on resolving Ukraine.
2. How will Vance/Rubio react? Trump’s now a lame duck and was repudiated by the marginal coalition of voters that put him in office. Might see them wander a little further off the reservation in coming months.
3. Dems will likely fall into the same “we won” trap. There’s also an impending battle between traditional Dems and DSA faction.
4. Who will Dems impeach first? Smart money was on appointments like Hegseth but if the blue wave is as big as it looks right now they won’t be able to resist impeaching Trump again.
5. Trump was the right person to rapidly and violently reverse course after Biden, but it was a moment in time. His R successor will need to maintain the core principles but conduct themselves with much more empathy and restraint. As of today, I think Rubio is that guy.
6. It’s the marginal voter that matters. Trump benefited from Biden/Harris/wokeness/inflation and the legal persecution he faced. He picked up a ton of voters looking to reverse that but then governed closer to where his core base was and lost those marginal voters.
7. Markets don’t mind divided government because they like status quo but there could be some noise around AI names tied to data centers…
Sleep tight!
The thing I loved most about the news from @HaleyforMI today is that it’s a reminder that politics is about public service and sacrifice. It’s a tough job and it doesn’t pay well. Today’s politicians view it as a permanent career and use it to grift for themselves - they check their morals and personal opinions at the door and just toe the party line. Haley made a large sacrifice today because she thought it was the right thing to do. Having grown up in the midwest, her actions were both familiar to me and resonated strongly with me.
Midterm thoughts:
1. Rs will hold the Senate, may even gain a seat.
2. House is a coin flip but majority will be razor thin in either direction.
3. I’m so sick of the doomcasting and nonstop propaganda and ready for this to be over.
So you’re saying she can’t be Press Secretary but she’s qualified to be VP?

Every Sunday I feel like I’m watching “LIMU Emu” reruns with some NFL football periodically scattered in.
Having already been exposed to Climate Hysteria, Russia Hysteria and Covid Hysteria, I have natural immunity to AI / Data Center Hysteria.
Climate hysteria -> government takes control and kills domestic energy
Covid hysteria -> government takes control and shuts down schools, business & free speech
Russia hysteria -> government takes control and undermines elected representatives and shuts down free speech
AI and data center hysteria -> [we see where this is going]
Trump *needs* midterm anxiety to get the base out. Lower anxiety = lower turnout. Explains virtually everything he says and does lately.
