NEW BLACK VOTER PROJECT POLL RESULTS ‼️‼️‼️ 👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽
DATA RELEASE: new national election poll from @BlkVoterProject (w/@black_insights)!
With N=2,004 it’s the most expansive & rigorous survey of Black voters thus far, offering new insight into Black public opinion. For more (including top lines) click here: blackvoterproject.com/2024-n…

A portion of EVERY SINGLE racial/ethnic group voted for the racist white man. And, yes, it’s a sad truth but it’s also true that the portion of Black men supporting Harris is second only to Black woman…and significantly more than any other racial/ethnic group in the electorate.

No way we’re really gonna look at the protest of summer 2020, helping to create a political environment that mobilized Black voters (compared to 2024), flipped swing states (GA, PA, MI, NV, etc) & helped Biden win as giving us Trump…🤨🤨🤨

Some interesting insight comes from the (albeit limited) Black sample (N~200) here. Black votes pragmatism is on full display as they remain willing to vote Dem (83% for Talarico) even if they aren’t satisfied/don’t like the candidate. They’re not gonna just throw democracy away.

I’m hoping for the best but these races will depend on turning out low-propensity (unlikely) Black voters and, as we saw in 2024, this is no easy task that takes (at a minimum) months of engagement & real investment (rather than dumping whatever $$ they can pull together in Oct).

Research we (@black_insights) did with @TargetSmart in 2022 & again on our own in 2024 found that racial threat significantly motivates Black people to vote - and, unsurprisingly, the threat of voter suppression was one *type* of threat that made a real difference in turnout.

“It's time now for you & me to become more politically mature & realize what the ballot is for; what we're supposed to get…& that if we don't cast a ballot, it's going to end up in a situation where we're going to have to cast a bullet. It's either a ballot or a bullet.” 🤔🤔🤔

Having talked directly with low-propensity Black voters over the last two years, specifically in OH & MI (Detroit), they’re not uninterested or apathetic but alienated & extremely pessimistic (hard to blame them). Talking to them helps…but it’s a tough spot esp for young people.
Hundreds of thousands of Black men are sitting out elections in Ohio. Almost no one is asking them why. ms.now/news/ohio-black-men-v…

She’s not wrong: Some of the most effective and well received political ads from this cycle successfully called out GOP candidates ambitions as Jim Crow 2.0!

Having talked to unlikely Black voters the last year, who will undoubtedly decide some of most important races this cycle, I’ve tempered my expectations (still expecting 🌊). They hate Trump but it’s not referendum on him - much diff ask to get them up & actively voting for Dems.

EXACTLY! Black voters regularly come home to the Dem candidate, even if it’s not who they initially supported in the primary. If Black turnout surpasses 2024, both have a path to victory.
Plus, with N=251 in the MI survey, good chance Black support for Sayed is even higher.

With the Black sub-sample N=91, the MoE is probably upwards of 10-12%, so that 1% could end up being closer to the other candidates when extrapolated to a larger population.
That said, you really can’t say much from this data except that Harris is far ahead of everyone else.

These are all good points…and it’s not wrong to feel optimistic about Bottoms considering the current climate. But there’s another powerful reason why we’ve NEVER had a Black woman govenor (i.e. racism/sexism) & that plays a role in both Abrams’ & Harris’s past losses in GA too.

Having talked directly to Black voters in Detroit (focus groups, interviews, etc) - these are NOT in any way shape or form Black Democrats.
Moreover, in ‘24, 95% of Black Dems voted for Harris, so trying to find one willing to vote GOP is like looking for a needle in a haystack.

A @black_insights analysis of Black turnout in 2024 suggested that Harris would’ve won the state if her campaign contacted more low-information, unlikely Black voters, specifically creating a heightened sense of the threat Trump was to the Black community. And, well, here we are.

Judging from how Black people felt about Harris in 2024 - 75% said her presidency would change America - plus the MOST important feature for a 2028 Dem candidate was race (Black), it’s going to be VERY difficult for any white candidate to break her Black support in a Dem primary.
If you’re a white candidate who wants to the Democratic nominee in 2028? You can’t just match Kamala with the typical NAACP/urban league/state party event. You have to outwork her with Black voters, and NOBODY seems to realize that yet. Becasue they are listening to the inside the beltway consultants tell them that Kamala isn’t liked.

Here we go again…Black men did NOT move toward Trump (even an inch) & supported Harris at the same rate as Biden!
Plus, Black male support grew w/Harris as the nominee & was higher than that of white, Latino, & Asian men/woman, but I don’t see constant think pieces there!?!?!?!
Ever since Democrat Kamala Harris lost the presidential election to Donald Trump two years ago, political strategist Khalil Thompson has been traveling the country to figure out why Black men inched toward a white Republican rather than a Black woman. to.pbs.org/4xkQCJO

Just to be crystal clear: Black male support grew with Harris as the nominee & actually exceeded the support Biden received in 2020 (79%) in data designed to accurately poll the Black community.
Most polls also had Black male support for Harris within the MoE for 2020 support.
