All of human history is an experiment.
So, the premise of ours is simple: to see what happens when people are given money on a regular basis with no strings attached.
Not in exchange for their time or their work, but just because people need money.

Hey Washington DC fam!
We're focus testing a new screening/discussion event format next week, and it'll help decide how our big national campaign rolls out next year. Come participate and help us make it magic!
If you're a #UBI nut, don't miss it! Some basic income notables will be in attendance, and there'll be plenty of time to mingle.
We are one week away from another sneak peek of BOOTSTRAPS (in Washington, DC!)
Discuss the series in person with Conrad Shaw, series co-creator. Free to attend. Free popcorn and drink, with a reception to follow.

We look back at history as though it were inevitable.
But if we paused to really think about it, we realize that people have always been making it up as they go along.
And that means it's not too late to put aside what's not working to try something different.
NEXT STOP: Washington, D.C.! ✈️
Catch a sneak peek screening of Bootstraps, directed by Emmy winner Deia Schlosberg, and discuss the series in person with Conrad Shaw (series co-creator) as part of DC GIC's film series.

We rarely see the magic in our own day-to-day lives, so what feels ordinary to you may actually be extraordinary to outside observers.
While we are endlessly amazed by the Bootstrappers, we know we’ll be just as amazed by you.
So… what would you do with a basic income?
We are, as a species, addicted to story. Even when the body goes to sleep, the mind stays up all night, telling itself stories.
— Jonathan Gottschall, The Storytelling Animal: How Stories Make Us Human
Have you convinced yourself that your life story is “too boring” to tell?
(Key word: convinced)
To be convinced means to accept that something is true. But is it actually true?
It sucks when people feel inspired but POWERLESS when the end credits of a moving documentary roll.
You're left wondering, "What do I do now?"
Have you experienced this? Or have you experienced the alternative, where a project gives you a way to take action?
The share of U.S. adults who believe “most people can be trusted” fell from 46% in 1972 to 34% in 2018 according to the General Social Survey.
How do we rebuild trust in each other?
Data and economic charts can only take us so far.
Bootstraps is meant to go beyond the quantitative metrics and explore how our lives, relationships, and communities would actually change if there was a financial safety net.
