The chairperson Agriculture Committee Hon. @AKyambadde and Hon @dbahati as chief guests joined other stakeholders at Namanve Industrial Park for the groundbreaking ceremony of Pamoja Packaging and Industrial Solutions Ltd., a significant milestone in Uganda's industrialisation journey. The project, supported by the Uganda Development Corporation (UDC) through a UGX 29 billion investment, seeks to strengthen local production of plastic and paper packaging materials. Hon. @dbahati challenged investors to tap into Uganda's packaging market, which currently relies on approximately US$500 million worth of imported polymers and packaging materials annually. Hon @AKyambadde welcomed the emergence of indigenous manufacturing enterprises, recalling the early challenges of promoting Buy Uganda Build Uganda (BUBU). She also challenged @udc_uganda to invest in cold-storage infrastructure to connect agriculture more effectively to manufacturing and address post-harvest losses. The proposed factory is expected to create over 1,000 jobs and produce close to 100 million packaging units monthly when fully operational. The message is clear: Uganda must move beyond consuming what others manufacture. We must invest, produce, add value, create employment and retain our wealth within our borders.
