Replying to @naomibrockwell
@naomibrockwell gets it, and @JamesCHeckman brings important insights on this important panel about the lack of privacy we have at the @PrincipledBus Summit.
Many groups are building technology for a freer future.
If you restrict the good actors from building and training powerful AI models you’re leaving the bad actors to freely build and training powerful AI models that will proliferate.
@MorpheusAIs is needed now more than ever.
Neither side is freedom centric enough in the debate in my opinion.

Great panel on “Becoming AI Native” and what proper adoption and future effects look like.

It’s so crazy that most of the country just lets the healthcare system rake them over the coals. Exit the system and take control of your health. Link in the comments:
It's that time. TAKEDOWN TUESDAY!
We have some DOOZIES coming up! This is the first in a string of 6 digit bills where cash pay discounts and our negotiating ninjas have gotten them to a reasonable price.
Major heart surgery, ICU stay, meds, and implanted defibrillator.

The Crowd picked up the remaining $59,500.

So far 6 of my flights this month have arrived early (some took off early too), 1 was on time, on two different airlines. My current flight is scheduled to be early as well.
Anyone else experiencing this?

The safe life is the riskiest life there is, because it risks the wasting of itself.
Why do I see teens and young adults with one AirPod in almost 24/7? Even during church or while working a busy job… I don’t get it.

Much of America's ills can be explained by the fact that her people do not understand economics.

Play date etiquette has a huge spectrum.
Examples from just this month:
We bring a 7 year old friend from school home with us and when she gets picked up (on time) it’s just a honk from outside and she jumps in and they’re off. I don’t even know what the parents look like.
Last week we had a 5yr old friend arrive an hour late with both her parents and little sister, bleeding into dinner time. The mom sets up her laptop and starts working at our dining room table and the husband talks our ears off. Luckily we had enough of what we made for dinner to share with them and it worked out. We then spent 40 minutes working our way to the door so our kids could go to bed.
Now I know why my wife’s always anxious when someone wants to have a play date. There’s no way of knowing what you’re getting into!
(We like both families and all the kids, it’s just a crazy spectrum)

Why did Amazon, Nvidia, and Walmart create so much value for decades?
Bart Madden explains it in “Value Creation Thinking,” his new video course. And he’ll be speaking at the Principled Business Summit, October 28-30 in Austin.

It’s so obvious Anthropic is pushing for regulatory capture to protect itself from competition.
Is 10²⁵ FLOPs Still the Frontier?
A new Anthropic-written safety bill is circulating on Capitol Hill. Some of its ideas could be reasonable if limited to true frontier companies. As written, however, it will eventually sweep in most of Silicon Valley, damaging the startup ecosystem.
The bill defines the “frontier” as any model trained on 10²⁵ FLOPs — the EU standard from 2023. Biden’s executive order, California’s SB 53, and New York’s RAISE Act used 10²⁶ (ten times more). 10²⁷ is where the frontier actually is today (e.g., GPT-6 Astra).
Astra was reportedly trained on 100,000+ Grace Blackwell GPUs. A 10²⁵ model can be trained on as few as several hundred GB300 chips in three months. That is not frontier in 2026.
The definition is also cumulative: it adds FLOPs from fine-tuning, reinforcement learning, or other material modifications. In practice, that captures almost all meaningful post-training — work that is becoming commonplace in the enterprise.
The enterprise trend is toward thousands of smaller custom models built for specific workloads. These pose no frontier risk. Treating them as frontier systems would impose large compliance costs across corporate America for no safety gain.
Dario has claimed that Anthropic designs rules to disadvantage frontier companies like his own while advantaging smaller competitors. This definition does the opposite.
A stale 2023 cutoff favors incumbents who already clear the bar and can absorb the costs. It hobbles the open model ecosystem that threatens Anthropic’s pricing power.
The frontier keeps moving. Any definition meant to track risk should move with it.
Anthropic should clarify if they really believe 10²⁵ FLOPs represents the frontier.

"Words have specific meanings. Unfortunately, capitalism is frequently misused by supporters and critics alike. Too often, what people defend or condemn is not free-market capitalism at all.
Although distinctions exist among capitalism, free enterprise, and free market, for the purposes of this essay, I use capitalism to mean free-market capitalism: an economic system based on private property, voluntary exchange, competition, freedom of entry and association, and freedom of contract—including wages negotiated without government-imposed minimums."
