The @JConIdeas (HT @EconTalker) allows publishing under a pseudonym and authors can later claim credit, presumably by allowing the editors to reveal the truth to selected individuals.
Independent verification is necessary if either the editors can't reveal the truth (information was lost or the journal closed) or if the author wants to keep the revelation secret from the editors.
Love this idea of "mega-studies" youtube.com/watch?v=1HdqozO3… (large experiment testing many hypotheses simultaneously), especially as it makes it easier to publish null results.
