So nice to see our "Of bars and stripes" paper out. Kudos to everyone at @EvoLab_Konstanz involved and especially to lead author @jan_gerwin. Has been really brilliant working with you over the years! onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…

This is one of my favourite moments from BBC's Life Story.
The skill involved with making this structure is AMAZING. And it is MADE BY A FISH!

Janet Rossant used “the pantheon” to refer to the collection of model organisms in her #IZFC2021 talk. It’s a VERY good analogy. Different strengths and specializations for different models.

My poster for #IZFC2021 is up - we explore the spatio-temporal expression for all zfish Connexins (Cx) across a whole-embryo scRNAseq dataset. There are a lot of Cx (41!), but they all have unique expression signatures.

Happy to share a new paper in which we helped our friends and colleagues Pauline Salis, Vincent Laudet and others understand environmental plasticity in clownfish pigmentation. Anemone species > TH signaling > Pigmentation.

The people I work with are badasses. Because of them we have three new preprints on-line. 1/11
A morphospace to study pigment pattern changes that occur via evolution or mutagenesis.
Good quantification are important for complicated traits!

sciencedirect.com/science/ar… Our latest work is out today in @CellStemCell. In it we report on a new model of AML constructed by CRISPRing in specific driver mutations in a specific order to build an AML “de novo” in human iPSCs. 1/
How do spots and stripes evolve? The preprint on Evo/devo/geno of pigment patterns in danio sister species is up. Great summary from my postdoc advisor if you want the highlights.
We have a new preprint out on Danio pigment pattern evolution. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

Here's all the sixteen Danios illustrations in a single frame!! Was an amazing experience illustrating these splendid fish! Look forward to start a new batch and share them with you all 😇 #Dashing_Danios

If your paper gets all caps reviewer feedback on the basic scientific process... take it as a warning that it is inherently flawed. Sorry to see this paper was published. Glad to see the response from STEM community.

Good things from UO.
This is big news for us: $4.3 million in funding to expand our infrastructure for Covid testing so that we can better serve Lane County and the state as a whole. A tangible illustration of the value of research universities. around.uoregon.edu/content/s…
Outside of Zebrafish and other danios, are there any other REALLY striped minnows? I can only find a few daces. Super specific question. Twitter don’t fail me. @mtanichthys have any insight?
