In 2023 Heineken bought Distell in a deal valuing the business at about R40bn. By the end of that year it had already written down R10bn on its South African operation. Today it confirmed its SA wine business, home of Nederburg and JC Le Roux, is "under strategic review".
That's how exits often start. First a review, then a sale, then a quiet goodbye.
Their beer is growing, so South Africans are still buying. The problem is a country where excise keeps climbing, illicit alcohol already makes up 18% of what's sold, and doing business gets harder every year.
Nobody has said Heineken is leaving. But if it reduces its SA exposure, the jobs at risk are jobs SA cannot afford to lose. Heineken directly employs almost 5,000 people here, and the wine industry it anchors supports over 270,000 jobs, from farmworkers to bottlers. All this at a time when official unemployment is already 33.6%.
Government should be asking why one of the world's biggest brewers is reviewing its SA bets, not waiting for the announcement.

Eskom got R80 billion of our tax money as “debt relief” and still jacked electricity prices up 12.74%.
Then they reported a profit. 😇
Sales volumes dropped meaning they’re selling less electricity and charging more for it and celebrating a “turnaround”.
This is government printing money through our prepaid electricity vouchers and municipal bills then collecting more VAT on the higher prices of electricity
In the meantime, Eskom board & staff get salary increases for producing less electricity and the bailouts keep flowing when the numbers don’t look sexy enough.
When the state owns the monopoly, the customer always pays twice : higher prices for less kilowatts and again in bailouts through our taxes.

The residents of Auchtertool in Fife are taking a stand against a monster AI data centre that is being proposed to be situated right next to their scenic village and beautiful countryside.
Please watch this video by the schoolchildren of Auchtertool.
The proposed data centre is one of the biggest in the world - bigger than their village. And it’s estimated that the 600MW energy consumption with be 20% of Scotland entire energy consumption. It’s also being situated on beautiful countryside. Fife Council haven’t published an environmental impact report.
This campaign to stop this AI data centre monstrosity in Fife is now receiving huge amounts of media and social media coverage. For once, people power can defeat tech corporations power if this campaign continues to be amplified.

Because really….

The wheels turn slowly, but better late than never. Companies featured in amaBhungane’s #ScamEmpire investigation have had their financial services licences provisionally withdrawn by the FSCA.
The regulator withdrew the licence of Astrix Data, now IGM Financial Services, after an investigation into Astrix, Vector Financial Services and Finbok found prima facie evidence of multiple contraventions.
Another company we reported on has suffered the same fate – The Grand Trading which had operated the TradeFT site and used the same back-office network.
All of the above formed part of a massive international scam network.

The evidence of history suggests the modern climate agenda is designed to reshape human society, weaken sovereignty and consolidate centralised global control.
The foundational flaw of the climate narrative is the omission of context. We were told current temperatures and CO₂ levels were unprecedented, yet geological history tells the exact opposite story. For the past 34 million years - since the glaciation of Antarctica, and driven by tectonic shifts and changing ocean currents - Earth has been locked in the Late Cenozoic Ice Age.
These conditions intensified 2.58 million years ago into the Quaternary glaciation, characterised by long, brutal glacial periods interrupted by temporary, warmer interglacials, like the Holocene we live in today.
During the past 541 million years of exploding biological diversity (the Phanerozoic Eon) the global temperature has averaged 24°C, ranging from 18°C to 34°C peaks. This is fully 9°C warmer than today’s calculated average of 15°C. We are living in unusually 'cold times' and there is no likelihood of an urgent global warming or climate change facing human society.
The other nemesis comes in the form of CO₂, which is the foundation for photosynthesis, agriculture and the rise of complex life on Earth. Rather than suffering from an excess of CO₂, Earth has been experiencing a long-term carbon decline.
Prior to the industrial era, low CO₂ levels contributed to global aridity, the retreat of biomass and loss of ancient rainforests. An increase in atmospheric CO₂ represents an opportunity for life's biological resurgence, as a fertiliser that stimulates biological growth and expands the planet's agricultural produce.
The natural world has endured genuine, cataclysmic upheavals - but this is not one of them. The great extinction events of the past - such as the Carnian Pluvial Episode or the End-Permian extinction - played out over tens of thousands to millions of years. Yet the biological world survived, adapted and survived.
When the planet experienced sustained, greenhouse conditions, life didn't collapse - it flourished. During the Eocene Epoch 56 million years ago, palm trees grew in the Arctic, ice disappeared from the poles and lush rainforests and endless biology blanketed 85% of the Earth's landmass.
Far from a wasteland, the Eocene was a time of astonishing biological abundance of food and a massive radiation of mammalian life. The lessons of history show us that warmer conditions are not to be feared; they are catalysts for biological resilience and growth.
The brief fluctuations of past decades do not constitute a climate crisis; they are evidence of a temporary, microscopic blip in geological time.

A bon entendeur.

[ICYMI] Following an 18-month investigation, Eskom concedes it made R3-billion in irregular payments to diesel suppliers.
AmaBhungane’s investigation alleged that Eskom made at least R3-billion in prepayments to little-known suppliers who were struggling to deliver enough diesel to Ankerlig when the country was faced with loadshedding in 2025.
While Eskom’s 7-page press release did not use the word “prepayments”, it did refer to “advanced payments” and what it calls “payments outside of the contractual terms”.

DESPERATION. Is that all you have left @GwedeMantashe1, clinging onto the past, as if your liberation political agenda will save us going forward. In the process, your party has pushed more people into poverty than out of it. You have personally enriched yourself. Your party has made more people unemployed and unemployable through a failed education system. With no forward looking vision to grow the economy, your party is rapidly dying and you have no plan to save it. Under your watch, PetroSA has been trashed and our mining industry destroyed. You’re a washed up politician with nothing new to add to the debate about SA’s future. It’s time you packed your bags.

[ICYMI] In July 2025, Eskom bought 40 million litres of diesel from a supplier. It recorded it as “received” it in its books and paid R721-million. But a year later, the diesel – now worth R1-billion – has not been delivered.
Three weeks ago, Eskom released a quiet press statement saying: “Eskom … received an independent verification report confirming that there were no discrepancies between the diesel delivered or available to Eskom and the amounts paid”.
But amaBhungane’s investigation digs deeper, exposing how Eskom prepaid hundreds of millions for little more than an IOU for diesel to be delivered at a later stage.

Commode. Très commode.
Dès qu’on refuse votre Europe fédérale, on devient « anti-européen ».
