I want to acknowledge that my comments about local media in Peterborough were unfair and did not capture the nuanced reality of the media landscape here. I will say, that it is interesting to engage in these discussions, especially as journalism is quite literally disappearing from social media with Bill C-18.
I have real frustrations, but I also value the positive examples, relationships, and in-depth reporting that does exist in our community. I should have immediately acknowledged in my original tweet that the post I referred to originated from “social” media. And, my frustration should not have led me to generalize unfairly.
Instead of owning my part/mistake I went back and forth 😏 which is something I like to do, but it can also get me in trouble.
I appreciate everyone’s feedback, and your comments have registered with me.
Some positive examples of local media that I value:
- Joelle’s Council live tweets
- The Arthur and Ptbo Currents, consistent in-depth reporting
- Paul Rellinger’s articles @ KN
- Cliff’s EPIC photos and all the fun we have setting up shots.

On #NationalCanoeDay, we recognize & celebrate the canoe's #Indigenous origins! 🛶
We're grateful for the Indigenous Peoples, cultures & communities who created canoes in all their forms & to this day, are continued innovators of these watercraft.

ALT Text overlaid on a close-up photo of various birch bark canoes. Text reads: "Today, as part of our National Canoe Day celebrations, we recognize and celebrate the canoe's origins. Indigenous Peoples around the world designed, built and used the first canoes (and kayaks). The canoe embodies Indigenous cultural memory – and is a living being with historical and contemporary relevance. We express our gratitude to the Indigenous Peoples, cultures, and communities who created canoes in all their forms and, to this day, are continued innovators of these watercraft."

Today we're sharing a progress update on the new museum.
Steady progress has been made, but industry-wide construction challenges have delayed the Museum’s opening to late summer or early fall.
