“Today my daughter changed her profile picture. After maybe 5 minutes I get a text …’ I didn’t know she was dating a black boy, did you?’ It took me all day to think up a response, which I didn’t send personally but thought I would share for anyone else that ‘may not know’. Yes in fact I did know, but the color of his skin doesn’t define who he is. What does define who is he is how he treats my daughter. I see my daughter dating a boy that comes to my house and shows me nothing but respect (a big deal in my book). It’s always Yes Ma’am, No Ma’am, we talk about football and baseball, he tells me bye when he leaves, and has not once shown me a lack of manners or respect. I see my daughter dating a boy who treats her good. He takes her on dates, to ballgames, out to eat… not to a club or partying on the weekends. I see my daughter dating a boy who takes her to church with him. Every Sunday. He plays in the band, she sits with his family. How many young men these days make church a priority? None of the others have. He doesn’t hit her, cuss her, lie to her, or make her cry. Would I rather her date a white boy that did, to keep from her dating another race? Absolutely not. So that’s my response to the question I was asked. And I know people have their own opinion, but at the end of the day, the fact that my daughter has someone that loves her and treats her like a queen makes me happy. That’s something I’ve never had in my life and I’m glad she does.” Credit: Heather Boyes

Elon: brand advertisers don’t care what they are getting for their money. Performance advertisers do, and they only contribute 15% of Twitter’s revenue.
Replying to @elonmusk @paraga
So how do advertisers know what they’re getting for their money? This is fundamental to the financial health of Twitter.

6/ (Aside: I wish the paper would have covered the fact that Apple's own ad network does not use SKAdNetwork for attribution but rather the Apple Ads Attribution API, which provides more reporting granularity than does SKAdNetwork. All other ad networks must use SKAdNetwork)

5/ Apple's own ad network is allowed to depict use of consumer data for ads targeting as 'personalization', whereas ATT prompt buckets all other applications, for other ad networks, as 'tracking'. This is clear self-preferencing, as the semantics matter! mobiledevmemo.com/att-advant…

4/ The second is that users can choose to participate in ads personalization with Apple's ad network, Apple Search Ads, which many other ad platforms don't allow. That's true, but Apple also frames this as 'Ads Personalization' vs. the 'tracking' terminology used in ATT prompt

Today we mark the UK release of The Dark Side Of The Moon in 1973. Most critics hailed the album; the UK's Sounds said that the album was "unreservedly recommended...it features Pink Floyd's best playing and composing. The effects add to the music without a trace of gimmickry".

Podcasts not your thing? We turned that episode of In Depth into a @firstround Review article ;)
Wrapped up the first cohort of my @MavenHQ course on startup brand strategy on Friday. What a whirlwind. 2 weeks. 25 founders (36% women!). 7 workshops. 4 office hours. Excited for a few days off now, but sharing some lessons learned & feedback that made it all worth it first. 🧵

I'm 2 days into teaching my first course through @MavenHQ to 25 amazing, diverse, and interesting founders. Definitely an intense and rewarding experience so far. If you're thinking you might want to teach a course, there's no better way to get better at something than to do it.
“A lot of these people weren’t teaching until Maven.” — @wes_kao We’re unlocking a brand new generation of digitally native professors. And they’re the best in the world.

Talking about the Megacool journey!
Here, @aurorakb of @MedalTv recalls her experience with rewarded video ads. She explains that despite knowing everything about your product, your users will still need to be educated in order to use and promote it well. The full episode is here:mobileuseracquisitionshow.co…

One consequence of FB’s diminished targeting effectiveness that Im seeing manifest in real time is that smaller cos need to operate across more channels to deploy the same budget. More channels = more overhead, more analytical complexity. A new hurdle to early-stage growth (1/X) – at Austin, TX
