Thanks to our partners and supporters (including @Literacy_Trust) and the team who inspired us (@PlanetRead and @Brij_PlanetRead). Thanks to @henrywarren and the team. And another huge thanks to national treasure @stephenfry for this wonderful message. #TurnOnTheSubtitles 5/5
UK parliament picks up an Indian innovation: Same Language Subtitling (SLS) on TV for reading. Kudos to MIB for policy on SLS; needs to be implemented in #COVID times. @PMOIndia @narendramodi @PrakashJavdekar @DrVKSaraswat49 @amitabhk87 @supriyasahuias
At PMQs, I asked the Prime Minister @BorisJohnson to support a government consultation on the Turn on the Subtitles campaign.

Thank you SSIR for this opportunity to tell our Same Language Subtitling (SLS) story of 23 years. If there is a low-hanging fruit to make a billion people read in India and another billion in other countries, it is verbatim #subtitles or #captions. Works…lnkd.in/g775rdU
India passed a broadcast policy to add #SameLanguageSubtitles or #captions on 50% of all TV programs by 2025. Huge step; now needs implementation at quality. Good, becoming a global thing. @PrakashJavdekar @narendramodi
Let's face it - more time at home means more TV. So let's encourage our broadcasters and tech companies to (finally) Turn On The Subtitles to (scientists agree) improve the reading of a generation of kids.
