We need to talk about the Maktoums
A larger, longer-running ownership concentration that has been largely accommodated and lauded
Do we need sovereign scale resources in British racing ?
Regulatory caps risk being arbitrary when the power remains with the bigger breeder

A split Polar Vortex in early November? 👀
The latest ECMWF 00z shows two vortex cores/lobes at 10mb, over northern Eurasia and Canada, with a wave-2 ridge cutting in-between. The same pattern reaches down to 50mb, so it’s not just an upper-level feature, but it is actually an upward-propagating event from the lower levels.
Both ECMWF and GFS push 60°N/10mb winds below the historical minimum (5–11 m/s by Nov 4-5). Even the GEFS extended mean, with its usual strong-SPV bias, is trending weaker in the latest available data.

Knees Up!
Together Now, a three-year-old half-sister to (the overrated) City of Troy, broke her maiden today in her fourth start. She had been beaten as the favorite at odds of 6/4 and 2/7 in her previous two runs this year, and finally obliged at 1/5.
All four of her runs have been in races contested over ground softer than good, and it may not have been a coincidence. I say that because she shows the type of pronounced knee action which is typical of horses that tend show their best on softer ground.
As you watch her in the embedded video clip, imagine the concussive force that would be produced by that type of action on firm ground.
This is behind nauseous now
Get him out in a field ffs

Aidan O'Brien and Wayne Lordan combined for all but one of the seven races at Leopardstown, teaming up for a 213-1 six-timer, becoming the first trainer-jockey combination to win six races at one meeting in Ireland or Britain 👏
