Growing up being abused, I listened to a lot of music like my life depended on it. And it did. Music literally got me through a nightmare that I think I wouldn’t have had the strength to get through without it.
It’s like, no matter how much my abusers were trying to gaslight me into thinking they were right and I was wrong, or that the abuse was normal, I had these brilliant musicians preaching to me what was really up. And I knew my abusers were totally out of touch because if they could actually appreciate the messages that are being sung by these amazing people out there, they wouldn’t be abusive people, they’d be enlightened. But they can’t hear it like we can. They’re stuck in their own demented little bubble of their own stunted perception of reality.
Music was a source of clarity for me. Music kept me in touch with reality. I knew I wasn’t alone, and I knew my abusers were nothing but out-of-touch people who would never know the amazing things that were happening or understand how wrong and clueless they really are. 🙏 TGFM
