Myron Rolle says The NFL questioned his commitment because he was a Rhodes Scholar “I knew that I was trying to shake a stigma that I was too smart for the NFL or that I wasn’t committed to football... I came back from Oxford. I was a year and a half off. Went to Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, came back, had not played, was fourth on the depth chart at the Senior Bowl. By the time Saturday came and the game came, I was starting.” “Taylor Mays, all the best players in the country, I’m out here balling with them. Then Tampa Bay brings me into their room. They’re like, ‘Rolle, do you feel like you quit on your team?’” “‘You’re the best player on your Florida State football team. You feel like you let your guys down by going to Oxford and not sticking around for your senior year? Do you love football?” “‘Are you going to leave if we draft you?’ They’re peppering me with these questions. And I’m like, you tell me to be a student-athlete. Now I do it at one of the highest levels and now it’s coming back as a black mark against me.’ The NFL was going to say, this kid has too many other things he can do. We’re not sure if we want to invest in him.’”
