Ignore anyone telling you these meetings aren't important. This is the most intense and significant flurry of diplomacy since June. The outcome is unclear. But it is very possible the end of the war is at hand. Just to put together the major pieces: - Larov (🇷🇺) & Munir (🇵🇰) visited Tehran last week - High level officials from 🇸🇦 🇵🇰 🇹🇷 visited Tehran yesterday - Pezeshkian met with Putin (🇷🇺) and Thani (🇶🇦) today - Ghalibaf speaks to Khamenei shortly before this - Rezaei immediately goes and talks to Khamenei after You have engagements at a minister & head of state level with almost every single regional heavyweight. After every one of these events you have a bunch of people confidently declare "nothing is going on there is no chance this succeeds" but each subsequent event challenges that. There are almost certainly very intense debates and discussions being had both in Washington DC & Tehran right now on the way forward. An apt parallel would be to the final weeks of the Iran-Iraq War when the same Mohsen Rezaei wrote a secret letter to Ayatollah Khomeini that, along with Rafsanjani's intervention, led to the decision to end the war. We don't know much about Mojtaba Khamenei but it does seem like he leans more towards confrontation than the two previous SLs (and Iran is not in as dire a position as then yet), so it's unclear if the outcome will be the same this time. The main disputes are on sequencing and who takes irreversible steps in what order. I suspect Iran is more flexible behind the scenes than its public stances on the nuclear dispute but wants significant concessions upfront before it gives anything there that up to now the US is willing to give. It's a very difficult knot to untie, but not impossible.
