And with innovative programs reducing violent crime in the Golden State, the California Model is proving that public safety and rehabilitation go hand-in-hand.

On Friday of last week, I had the honor and privilege to attend the graduation ceremony for the first-ever class of 22 incarcerated women at the California Institution for Women through my university, @CalStateLA. These women earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies.
Students completed up to 4 courses per semester over the course of two years. They also received individual career counseling, and a LinkedIn profile and career portfolio to prepare them to pursue their individual desired careers upon leaving prison.
This event was one of the most impactful experiences of my life. Higher education has been shown to open doors and transform lives.
I am so proud of my university's partnership with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Over the last 10 years, this program has transformed the lives of over 118 students.
Wishing all good things for the members of this graduating class of courageous, hard-working, and dedicated women.

🐾 We’re excited to share that our partnership with SLO County Animal Services is back—bringing adoptable pets to visit with incarcerated persons at the County Jail!
Today’s special guest was Shanti, a 4-year-old German Shepherd/Husky mix. She’s sweet, social, and currently looking for her forever home. 🐶💛
Programs like this are a win-win: spending time with animals can help reduce stress and boost wellbeing for those in our facility, and it gives adoptable pets a chance to enjoy new experiences and meet more people.
Want to learn more about Shanti and how she could be part of your family?
