This is a disgrace for an American president to talk about Canada like this.

Fred Astaire once called this “the greatest movie musical number ever filmed.” This iconic scene features the unstoppable Nicholas Brothers, whose gravity-defying acrobatic tap dance in Stormy Weather (1943) stunned Hollywood forever.

It might be the most unlikely legacy of 9/11, but 25 years later, the musical “Come From Away” continues to enchant audiences with its story about how Canadians opened their homes to their American neighbors, and the world, in the wake of tragedy.

A bearing failed 150 km from Toronto, stranding me for 3 hours. Five times strangers stopped: two crawled under the car to help, others offered water and a phone, and another brought water and food. I can't thank them by name, but I can thank them here. Kindness from strangers.

Lloyd Robertson was a friend, a colleague and a generous mentor! He guided the nation through many of it's most important moments and was the voice of the generation for whom the facts mattered. Thank you Lloyd for all the years....and for your wise words and guidance.

Oh man, this one hurts. It was another era, granted, but trust and tradition wasn’t just a network slogan, it’s what he practiced, it’s what he breathed, every day — working tirelessly to earn the trust of Canadians by insisting on traditional journalistic standards of accuracy, balance, fairness and speed. That’s what Lloyd demanded and what he expected from each and every one of us in his orbit. His unmistakable voice was both authoritative and soothing and live broadcasts is where he truly excelled. I was - and still am - honoured and privileged to have worked alongside such a titan of journalism for a quarter century. It’s often a rough and tumble business and Lloyd was one of the last true gentleman to practice it with integrity and class. Goodnight, old friend, and rest easy.

One of the first buses to arrive in Houston after Hurricane Katrina was driven by a 20-year-old who had stolen it to help evacuate people from the disaster. The man behind one of the first buses to escape New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina was 20-year-old Jabbar Gibson. On August 31, 2005, as floodwaters engulfed the city and conditions at the Louisiana Superdome deteriorated, Gibson found an abandoned school bus with the keys still inside. Instead of waiting for delayed rescue efforts, he took the bus and loaded around 70 stranded people—including children, elderly residents, and families—to get them out of the disaster zone. Driving for nearly seven hours through flooded roads, storm debris, and police checkpoints, Gibson safely reached Houston, Texas. When the bus arrived at the Astrodome, officials initially assumed it was part of an organized government evacuation before discovering Gibson had acted entirely on his own. Although taking the bus was technically illegal, his actions were widely praised, and he was celebrated as a hero for helping save dozens of lives during one of America’s deadliest natural disasters.
