In my opinion, this feels like a biased move from @itchio, simply going along with the anti AI crowd. But what about developers who don't disclose their use of AI? We have statistics from our own platform showing that fewer than 50% of games disclose whether AI was used during development. How exactly is itchio planning to detect AI usage while avoiding false positives? Instead of targeting small indie developers who might use AI but still spend months or even years creating genuinely enjoyable games, shouldn't we be focusing on the actual problem, low effort, mass produced AI slop? Take my own game, Kingdom Syndicate, for example. I used AI extensively during development, but I also spent almost an entire year building it. It's a game I genuinely enjoy playing myself, and all I want is to find a few more players to enjoy it with. There are no microtransactions, no paid features, nothing. It's completely free to play. So why should a game like mine be thrown into the same category as something generated with a single prompt and published with barely any effort? AI usage alone shouldn't define the quality or value of a game. The effort, creativity, and final experience should. At this point they should also remove the low effort human slop because that platform is full of it.
