The paper presents some ‘out of the box’ thinking around how homes for children in care could be commissioned differently. It looks at how residential care & foster care operate in separate silos in the U.K and argues that radical reframing is needed.

NCB Deputy Director, Caroline Coady: “The research makes clear there are complex & intersectional factors driving high-cost placements. However, we heard from providers, local authorities & other stakeholders that an important part of the solution is relational commissioning."

Thanks for the signal boost. We’re gearing up for a proper David and Goliath battle with @CambsCC at a public inquiry — they’ve got public money to bludgeon us with so @CambridgePPF need to raise a fighting fund, anyone able to chip in, here’s the link: app.sheepcrm.com/cambridgepp…

I met with President Zelenskyy before his meeting with Trump and Vance. As always, he expressed his gratitude for America's support for the people of Ukraine.
He has something Trump will never have or understand: courage and principle. Every American should be outraged⬇️

Whilst the shortage is a factor, it’s not necessarily the main reason why some children are placed at a distance. The design of placement finding procedures and some policy decisions can inadvertently result in children being placed far from home.

Indeed. An independent home/carer can be closer to a child’s home than a LAs own provision. Or not. Either way procedures and policy should be about securing the best match for a child. Above all else.

A shame the post doesn’t mention how most councils have spot purchased care for children for many years. Despite the advice to enter contractual arrangements that would deliver better value.

Was good to hear about the follow up. Imo LinkedIn is a good source for insight and expertise on the topic. Constructive discussions there between providers & commissioners and a focus on solutions.

This is a commissioning discussion & exactly what many have been calling to be reformed for a long time now. In recent days I’ve seen increased questions around cause (rather than symptom) which is promising.

Another day, another parent receives a very serious letter in the post.
Their child's school attendance level has triggered legal action under the Single Justice Procedure.
The parent has to respond by telling the magistrate if they are guilty or not guilty.
