🚨 Frank Lampard on the controversial refereeing decision after James Tarkowski pulled Charlie Yirenkyi’s hair: 🎙️ Interviewer: “Frank, what was your reaction to the incident involving James Tarkowski and Charlie Yirenkyi? Frank Lampard: “I have watched it several times, and I honestly cannot understand how nothing was given. Tarkowski pulls the player’s hair. We are not talking about a little push or an accidental collision. It is a deliberate action. What is the referee Stuart Attwell looking at? You cannot just ignore something like that.” Interviewer: “Should Coventry have been awarded a penalty? Lampard: “Absolutely. If a defender grabs an opponent’s hair inside the penalty area, what other explanation do we need? Yirenkyi doesn’t have to fall dramatically or scream to deserve protection. The contact is there. The question is why the officials decided it wasn’t worth punishing.” Interviewer: “Should Tarkowski have received a red card? Lampard: “That is another serious question. Pulling an opponent’s hair is violent conduct. Officials cannot spend every weekend telling players to respect each other and then allow something like this to go unpunished. If the rules apply, apply them properly. Reputation should not protect anybody.” Interviewer: “Coventry scored first but eventually lost 3–1. Do you think that decision changed the game? Lampard: “You cannot rewrite the result, but you cannot pretend decisions like that don’t affect matches either. Coventry were in the game, they had taken the lead, and then one major incident becomes another controversy nobody can properly explain. Imagine being a Coventry player. You watch that happen, see nothing given and are then expected to simply get on with it.” Interviewer: “What is your biggest concern about the officiating? Lampard: “The lack of accountability. If a striker makes a mistake, everybody analyses it. If a defender makes a mistake, he gets criticised. But when an official misses something this obvious, what happens? We get silence, maybe an explanation later, and Coventry still walk away with nothing. That is not good enough.” Interviewer: “What would you say to Tarkowski? Lampard: “He is an experienced defender. He knows exactly what he is doing. You cannot complain about players diving and cheating while getting involved in something like this. And the most frustrating part? He wasn’t punished. That should be the real talking point.”
