I spent 25K+ over the last 6 months advertising... Sike, that was someone else who just stated it. And I really hate how publishing success largely belongs to the wealthy! I try not to go over like 60/mo. in ads/promo, lol, so please just read my samples. 🙏 🔗in B I O

Unsure what change in a reader's life I'd most hope for, but I was thrilled to get feedback that THE MANIC MISSION made readers think about the way they judge those w/ mental illnesses before understanding them. I intended readers to feel mixed about Gabe in the beginning. 🔗⬇️
If your book could change just one person's life, what would you want that change to be?

Sometimes I don't think we talk enough about the risks, personal/financial costs, impact on our health/mental health, etc. of writing, querying, publishing, & such. It's almost taboo to discuss all that. The only accepted thing to say seems to be, "keep writing." Why is that?
Being a writer is my biggest regret. It made life arduous. 97% of it is struggle, stress, suffering; 3% is perks and opportunities, opulent tourist activities and lavish restaurants for free. It wasn't worth hundreds of days of penniless starvation and decades without healthcare.

Truth about the #writerslife is most of us spend more than we make on our books, whether selling few or many. All we want in return is to know you enjoyed our books or got something out of them, & it wasn't in vain, so please let it be known through ratings, reviews, posts!🙏

405 MANTEL STREET is in the company of some great books here!❤️
OCTOBER NEW RELEASES 📚 October’s big book drop is here on #JustReadingNook! Stephen King closes the Talisman Trilogy, Freida McFadden goes full Salem, Bonnie Garmus is back after Lessons in Chemistry, Reacher hits a town of four, and Harry Bosch faces the darkest case of his life. 👀 But the indies came to play too. 🧡 Four old friends reunited by a death and a monster they thought they’d buried. Two Pasadena teens pulled into an ancient war. Fox Argall back on a case that’s nothing like a burglary. A gothic mansion where homeless youth must play to win. A 48-hour manhunt tearing through 1999 Belfast. And a runaway heir coming home to save his brother. @Author_N_Raines @CollingsMaccrae @CJSimone333 @neilwalkerwrote @AuthorPAlbano @justcastellon Twelve new releases, one TBR. Big names or hidden gems? Probably both. 🔗 Full roundup from the Nook Desk: tr.ee/0wtejW

The more interest agents showed in a book of mine, the less well it does at launch & w/ ads!😂 If they were worried (e.g., my Pitch Wars winner THE MANIC MISSION), it does great! Usually, GR giveaway ratings already began, but now... Ha, 405 MANTEL STREET is making me anxious!

Do you recognize an X author on your goodreads' "readers also enjoyed" list? @VickyBall3 is listed on every one of my 6 books, even while overall, most of my readers don't appear to be coming from X (maybe more than I realize are). Our books must appeal to the same readers!

You can steal away my books' ratings, bots-even the very first one 405 MANTEL STREET got-but you can't steal the value of my books or the enjoyment my readers get out of them!!!!!!! #BooksWorthReading

I'm in the minority preferring e-books (at least going off this poll). I've grabbed so many of your books, and I could never have done this many w/ much pricier hardcovers. Plus, my bookshelves are all stuffed full, & physical books are a pain when I move, which I do often(ish).
Readers, which do you prefer as far as your reading preferences?

What works best for selling my books varies by the books. Where I've found most of my readers so far: Children of the Mob series: Zon internal promo GALLOS: Zon ads (results mainly in KU readers, not cost effective) PIP AND ESTELLA: F-book ads 405 MANTEL STREET: SM / X

I spend time, not money, on advertising. Paid ads get ignored. what works is engagement on social media and in person. be prepared to talk about your work. i also have a wordpress blog that costs me nothing and gets traffic.

I'm mostly winging it, but my lame advice is: 1) Series b/c the books help sell each other 2) Try this, that, & the other thing, & just keep persisting even when it looks grim 3) If you have a time machine, travel back to before the flood of AI books/Zon changes & release then
I would sincerely like to offer other authors marketing advice, but I have no clue what I'm doing right. The last couple months, I have had some spikes. But as advice goes, 'be patient for six years and it might happen' is pretty lame advice.

A few questions for the #WritingCommunity: Why do you write/What motivates you? Compulsion & purpose What would you say drives you to write the stories you choose to pursue? Life What genre do you find yourself drawn to? Blend of thriller/suspense & psych fiction w/ romance
A few questions for the #WritingCommunity (are hashtags still useful on this site?): Why do you write? What motivates you? What would you say drives you to write the novels or short stories you choose to pursue? What genre do you find yourself drawn to as a writer/author?

Some agencies use "graded forms," either offering no encouragement (e.g., "sorry not for us") or a form with encouragement (e.g., "There's a lot to love but I didn't fall in love enough.") I've seen agents say it, AND I've gotten both from the same agency w/ different stories.

Are form rejections categorized at all? I would love to take "it's not what I'm looking for" at face value, but I'm pretty sure it's a catch-all.
