In 2023, we learnt that one in five British men think it’s never problematic to use sexist languge — and only 14% of men feel comfortable calling out sexism. That’s why we launched the Double Standards campaign, to call out insidious sexism that hides in everyday languge.
He’s passionate. She’s hysterical. He’s assertive. She’s bossy. The campaign resonated with 20M people across platforms, as well as across countries, with gendered language being a global problem.

Love this! Will be so helpful in making it clear & obvious what consent is, coercion & not saying no is not a yes!

I feel people are totally missing the point with this🤦🏻♀️The slogan “I’m asking for it” is attention grabbing & straight to the point, nobody asks to be raped that’s not what this campaign is saying. They are wanting to change the way consent is viewed in society & by law!

When we developed the slogan “I’m Asking For It,” we wanted to be intentionally provocative. How often has the justice system failed women when it put the blame on them, instead of asking the perpetrator what they did in order to ensure consensual sex?
The CPS recognises proving a lack of consent is a difficult part of prosecution and why so many rape cases fail.
This needs to stop. We need to ask for consent — that’s why #imaskingforit. It’s time we got in line with other countries. We need to sign the petition at affirmativeconsent.uk and demand legal change. @DrProudman @Right2Equality #affirmativeconsent #onlyyesmeansyes

Language is a powerful tool that shapes the way we think and communicate. However, the words we use can also perpetuate harmful stereotypes, particularly when it comes to gender.
