CSCE

Hey, #CSUSB! Are you interested in taking a class in a prison alongside incarcerated students? Are you interested in learning ways to improve your writing? Sign up for this unique class as part of the Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program!

Sam turned to visual art in order to convey the ways that education can be a practice of freedom 2/14

This Thursday at 5:30pm PT, #CSUSB students who taught a writing workshop in a prison facility via Zoom as part of their ENG 5140 coursework will share poetry, visual arts, and reflections. DM for Zoom link!

Great news! We have fully funded 1 incarcerated student’s tuition and are on our way to a 2nd! Please help us build CSUSB's first credit-bearing college-in-prison program. csusb.edu/makeagift/CSCE @CoyoteProudFund @AllianceforHEP

Check out this COVID19 Prison Education Archive Project from Hudson Link. They’re aiming to document how this moment is impacting “incarcerated individuals, the people that love them, and the programs that serve them.” The CSCE will be trying to contribute to this work!

Interested in learning more about teaching in prisons? Please join us TOMORROW, 12:30-1:30, UH 053, for a talk with Ernst Fenelon Jr., Senior Program Coordinator for PEP. CSCE director @RhetoricalTwist will have info on how #CSUSB students can apply for internship opportunities

The CSCE’s first group of #prisoneducation interns begins teaching this Thursday!

#CSUSB’s first group of interns with the Prison Education Project gathered for our CDCR orientation today. We’ll be teaching a class on confinement writing—reading and responding to works written by currently and formerly incarcerated people.

Save the date! Dr. Jeri Kirby (Fairmont State University and Inside Out Center affiliate) will visit CSUSB on May 16th to talk about her experiences as a prison educator.

CSCE Director @RhetoricalTwist and Project Rebound Director @AnnikaYvette were interviewed by NPR yesterday! Stay tuned for the story to drop in early January.
