Police Information Check Section (PICS) has temporarily suspended public-facing services following Civic Service Union 52’s 72-hour strike notification.
Effective immediately, PICS will not be accepting new applications for police information checks, local police records checks, civil fingerprinting, or alarm permits to prioritize maintaining requests on active criminal investigations. Applications submitted prior to Monday, March 11 at noon, will be processed accordingly. The PICS building is closed to the public until further notice, and staff will not be answering public emails or phone calls. Any emails sent during the strike notification period and the following strike action period will not be received by PICS. If you require any PICS services, please wait to contact the section until strike action has concluded.

I am at a loss to explain why the city would have demanded a direct vote on their offer. How did this help? Overwhelming rejection was the obvious outcome, so why force it? Did city managers think workers would change their minds, or that union leaders were misleading members?

Late Friday afternoon, the CSU 52 released the results of the library members’ vote. With 93 per cent voter turnout, 94 per cent of union members voted in support of a strike.
