Ratepayers are never happy about bigger bills, but not all the news is bad. In the recent ruling from the MPSC on the Consumers Gas rate increase, CUB fought back. The rate increase allowed will be nearly 40% less than what the utility requested. cubofmichigan.org/blog/mpsc-…

Investor-owned utilities operate as regulated monopolies; customers can’t switch when rates rise. Soon, Michigan voters decide Proposal 2, limiting political contributions from regulated utilities and expanding disclosure. CUB invites citizens to weigh in. cbsnews.com/detroit/news/mon…

Win: regulators cut Consumers Energy’s gas rate hike from $240M to $139M. Missed opportunity: they kept its 9.8% return on equity. Our 8.8% proposal would have saved customers $50M more. A reliable gas system doesn’t require such high profits, and CUB will keep making that case.

CUB has joined Michigan AG Dana Nessel in calling for a 42% reduction on UPPCO’s requested electric rate hike. As Michigan residents struggle to keep up with energy bills, CUB strongly opposes this unnecessary increase in utility profits: ironmountaindailynews.com/ne…

The D.C. Circuit’s decision to vacate the Department of Energy’s May 2025 order to keep the Campbell coal plant open is a good step for residential ratepayers. The energy resource planning process is best left to state and regional experts and regulators. cubofmichigan.org/blog/feder…

A group of Michigan lawmakers introduced legislation to overhaul customer compensation for power outages. The legislation seeks to increase the bill credits customers receive after long outages. If approved, it would simplify customer eligibility criteria. yahoo.com/news/us/articles/m…

MPSC approved a $74.5M DTE gas rate hike—down from the $162.7M requested. We're glad to see several disallowances, but disappointed the 9.8% ROE stayed unchanged. CUB had recommended 8.82%, which would've saved customers millions. michigan.gov/mpsc/commission…

Lost power for 96+ hrs during the July 4 outage? You may qualify for a minimum $42 credit on your utility bill. Utilities have up to 90 days to apply it, so check upcoming statements. Don't see it but think you qualify? Contact your utility for a review.
