Today, we are publicly releasing the key themes from our operational & investigative review of the search for 11-year-old Parker.
The internal review identified lessons learned, recognized what worked well & recommended practical improvements for future missing-person investigations & other prolonged critical incidents. It does not assess individual performance or reinvestigate Parkerโs disappearance.
The search became the largest missing person response in CPS history, involving a sustained, multi-agency operation, community participation & significant resources. The review recognized the commitment of members, partners, volunteers & the community, while identifying opportunities to strengthen systems.
Key strengths included investigation-led search management, public awareness, technology & digital evidence capabilities, strong partnerships & the professionalism, compassion & adaptability demonstrated throughout the response.
Opportunities for improvement included scalable resourcing, command integration, tip, task & canvass management, public alerting, technology readiness & member wellness.
One key finding involved the unprecedented volume of information received, including approximately 1,000 formal tips, more than 90,000 direct social media messages, thousands of emails & approximately 10 terabytes of CCTV footage. While this information had significant investigative value, existing systems were not designed to easily manage information at that scale.
Additional capacity & stronger systems would have helped CPS receive, assess, assign & track information more efficiently. The review does not conclude that different resources, systems or processes would have changed the outcome. Its recommendations will inform future policy, training, technology investments & operational planning.
We recognize renewed discussion may be difficult for Parkerโs family & friends, members involved in the response & others in our community. This release supports transparency, accountability & improvement while honouring the collective search effort.

Our graphic designer may be out of office, but the home security tips are still on the clock. ๐ก
While you are getting your property ready for the season, don't forget to overlook home security. Tools, ladders & yard equipment left out during fall cleanup can become easy targets for thieves.
Help keep your property safe this fall:
๐ Secure, lock away tools, ladders & other yard equipment when not in use.
๐ Do not leave equipment visible in your yard overnight.
๐ Trim shrubs, hedges to reduce hiding spots around doors & windows.
๐ Check outdoor lighting as daylight hours decrease.
๐ Keep garages, sheds & gates closed and locked, even when working nearby.
๐ Mark valuable equipment with identifying information. Keep a record of serial numbers.
A few simple precautions can help prevent theft, keep your property secure this season.
Taking a few extra seconds to slow down & look twice can save a life.
Drivers play a critical role in preventing pedestrian collisions. Itโs important to stay alert & anticipate pedestrians especially in intersections, crosswalks, playground zones & busy neighbourhoods.
Drivers can help keep pedestrians safe by:
โ
Scanning crosswalks & sidewalks before proceeding through intersections.
โ
Slowing down in areas with high pedestrian traffic, including playground zones.
โ
Checking for pedestrians before turning left or right.
โ
Being extra cautious at night & in poor weather when visibility is reduced.
โ
Putting distractions away & keeping their eyes on the road.
Today, we honour Constable Darren Beatty, who tragically lost his life on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, during a training exercise. Const. Beatty, 29, had been with the Service for nearly 5 years when he was critically injured during a training exercise while serving in the CPS Tactical Unit. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries after being transported to a local hospital.
The life of a police officer can end at a momentโs notice. Their loss shall be forever remembered.
๐ NEED TO IDENTIFY ๐
We are investigating an incident in which a woman allegedly impersonated a police officer during a traffic stop in N.E. Calgary.
๐ At approx. 3 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 5, 2026, a woman was travelling from Chestermere on westbound 16 Avenue N.E. when she noticed a black Toyota van with an aftermarket siren mounted on it following closely behind her.
As she approached the intersection of 16 Avenue & 68 Street N.E., the van activated the siren, which sounded noticeably different from a traditional police siren. After stopping for a red light, the driver of the van exited the vehicle & approached the driver's side window, requesting the woman's driver's licence.
The woman noticed the suspect was not displaying police insignia & questioned whether she was a police officer, asking to see police identification. The suspect then returned to the van & left the area.
๐ The suspect is described as an Indigenous woman with medium-length black hair, wearing jeans.
Safety tips:
The law requires motorists to pull over when a police vehicle activates its emergency lights behind them. However, the Calgary Police Service reminds drivers of the following safety tips:
๐น If you are unsure whether the person stopping you is a police officer, ask to see official identification or call 911 to confirm the officer's identity.
๐น Most Calgary Police Service traffic stops are conducted by officers in marked vehicles or in unmarked vehicles driven by officers wearing full police uniforms.
๐น Marked police vehicles are equipped with red & blue emergency lights on top & display the Calgary Police Service crest & the word "POLICE" on the sides.
๐น Unmarked police vehicles use red & blue emergency lights located in the grille or inside the vehicle.
๐น In rare circumstances, an officer in plain clothes may conduct a traffic stop in an unmarked vehicle. Such officers are required to carry police identification at all times.
๐น Drivers should remain in their vehicle during a traffic stop unless directed otherwise by a police officer.
๐น Police officers will identify themselves & will never demand money during a traffic stop.
Anyone with information about this incident or who knows the identity of the suspect is asked to contact police.
