For the last 20+ years, this 200y/o Georgian house has had ALL its grass cut regularly. Since moving in at the end of March, I’ve now chosen my paths & have started the long journey of turning this 1 acre plot into a haven for #wildlife. Here’s to a #NoMowSummer 💚

Common misconception. A bell doesn’t reduce the number of prey that cats catch. If you care about your cat, the constant jingling of the bells can cause them stress. If you have predators in your area, the bells can possibly alert predators to them. KEEP. YOUR. CATS. INDOORS.
Replying to @JeffreyMWard
Or, you know, put a collar with a bell on them.

Did you know if you have a pet euthanized, in some states, you can’t take them home to bury them bc it’s 1. A risk for animals to scavenge them & 2. It’s a risk to ground water & plant life as euthanasia solution never degrades & just leeches into the ground eventually
When euthanized animals are improperly disposed of, animals like scavengers (including eagles!) and pets, are put at risk of being poisoned. If you’re a veterinary professional, shelter worker, pet owner, or landfill manager, please watch this to prevent this from happening again

❗Send your letter or call the minister NOW to tell the government you oppose coal in the Eastern Slopes! 780-427-805 LETTER TEMPLATE: albertawilderness.ca/act-now…
❗Breaking: Alberta minister quietly lifted the coal moratorium (again), meaning Albertans are about to see a lot more coal activity in our mountains. This reverts protections and lifts the suspensions on any approvals paused under the previous orders.

We try to keep it clean here. But honestly….its very very hard. Please! Call your elected rep and speak out about this!
Just insane that we are letting trappers 'manage' our wildlife. Govt biologists have been silenced. Loewen's crew of uneducated trappers and trophy hunters are now in charge.

There are tons of landowners, developers, communities, municipalities, wildlife and watershed who are all stakeholders in the Nose Creek Valley. Calgary's upcoming Nose Creek Park Strategy will bring all these stakeholders together to #SpeakForNoseCreek. #SaveNoseCreek #yyc

Please don't graffiti the rock. This Glacial Erratic has had an amazing history. Being carried here on a glacier from the Jasper area, a rubbing stone for historic bison, and a waypoint for prehistoric man. Let's treat it as the natural monument it is. #SaveNoseCreek #SNCerratic

So true
In many Indigenous cultures, wolves are sacred. But colonization brought myths that cast wolves unfairly as villains. In truth, wolf attacks are incredibly rare, with no human deaths in the U.S. for over 100 years. It’s time to change the story. Act now @ TeamWolf.Org!

#Brazil The wildlife massacre on the roads of Brazil’s Mato Grosso do Sul state is staggering. We've seen collared & giant anteaters, armadillos, crab-eating foxes, black-striped capuchin monkeys, tapirs & ocelots. We take their land, but make no provision to protect them.

Remarkably, it weighs about as much as a penny! Only the Bee hummingbird of Cuba is smaller. This Mexican beauty is called the Bumblebee hummingbird, of course! Where did I find it? Here is the story.: (7min listing time): cbc.ca/listen/live-radio/1-9…

One of Murray Sinclair's teachings that I've tried to centre in my work, is to put truth before reconciliation and do the hard work to show that residential school denialists are wrong. So, since denialists are trying to misrepresent his legacy, here's how they get it wrong👇🧵

Our greatest gift to Sinclair’s legacy would be to ensure that Canada fulfills all 94 of the Calls to Action that he gave us, so that every child feels that they belong, that they have a purpose & are proud of who they are ⁦@TanyaTalaga⁩ theglobeandmail.com/opinion/…

Murray Sinclair was a great Canadian, a great Manitoban, a great Anishinaabe.  His career stands as a legacy of public service and a deep commitment to truth, fairness and dignity for all people.  He was the first Indigenous person to be named to the Manitoba provincial court and the Court of Queen’s Bench of Manitoba. He was the first, but he will be remembered as one of the best.  He was appointed co-commissioner of the Aboriginal Justice Inquiry, which laid bare systemic racism within the justice system and is considered a foundational perspective on the system’s relationship with Indigenous people. He led the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Inquest and his report spurred systematic change in the delivery of pediatric cardiac care in our province.  The penultimate moment of his career was his work as chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada. He approached a process that could have been divisive and instead transformed it into Calls to Action for the future of our country, helping all Canadians to learn to walk together into a future of respect and understanding where we live up to the phrase residential school survivors taught us – Every Child Matters.  It will be a long time before our nation produces another person the calibre of Murray Sinclair. He showed us there is no reconciliation without truth. We should hold dear in our hearts his words that our nation is on the cusp of a great new era and we must all “dare to live greatly together.”  On behalf of the people of Manitoba, I extend my condolences to his family and to all Canadians for the loss of Mazina Giizhik.  A sacred fire will be open to the public on the north side of the legislative building grounds until Murray Sinclair’s funeral later this week.
