CEO: "We're restructuring. Your role is being eliminated." Employee: "You just posted my exact job on LinkedIn. Same title. Lower salary." CEO: "We're looking for a different skill set." Employee: "You're looking for someone cheaper. Say it." CEO: "It's a business decision." Employee: "Yeah… and my mortgage is a personal one. Funny how only one of us gets to make decisions."

James’s grandfather had always told him that the old, out-of-tune upright piano in the basement held a secret, but James had never believed him. After his grandfather passed, James finally decided to clean out the dust covered room. He ran his fingers over the cracked ivory keys, striking a low, resonant chord that echoed off the concrete walls. One of the keys stuck completely down. Curious, James pried it loose and felt something stiff beneath the keybed. He reached into the narrow gap and pulled out a small, yellowed envelope. Inside was a hand drawn map of the property and a single, heavy brass key. Heart pounding, James took the key out to the overgrown garden behind the house, following the faded ink lines to the base of an ancient oak tree. Hidden beneath a tangle of ivy and a flat stone was a small metal lockbox. He inserted the key. It turned with a satisfying click. Inside lay a collection of beautiful, pristine love letters from his grandmother, alongside her long lost diamond engagement ring that the family had searched for over thirty years. James held the ring in the sunlight, tears in his eyes, feeling closer to his grandparents than ever before.
You do think it's crazy when you hear other people's stories.

CEO: “Why did you approve the leave request without bringing it to me first?” HR: “Because the employee had completed the required process, and the policy allows it.” CEO: “I run this company. Nothing happens here without my approval.” HR: “Then we should update the policy so employees know that.” The CEO stared at her. CEO: “Are you telling me how to run my own company?” HR: “No, sir. I’m telling you what the company’s policy says.” This happened in our office on Lagos Island. The conversation started over one employee’s leave request, but it quickly became about something much bigger. The CEO wanted HR to reverse the approval. She refused because she believed doing so would set a bad precedent for the entire department. Later that afternoon, the CEO called her into his office again. CEO: “I don’t like being challenged in front of my staff.” HR: “I understand, sir. But if I’m only allowed to agree with you, then there’s no point in having an HR department.” He dismissed her. For the next few days, nobody knew what would happen. Some people said she had made a mistake by standing her ground. Others felt she had simply done her job. Then the CEO called another meeting with HR. This time, he didn’t mention the leave request. He said, “Going forward, bring these decisions to me before you approve them.” HR asked, “Will that be an official change to the policy?” He paused before answering. That was when I realized the argument had never really been about one employee taking leave. It was about whether the CEO wanted a professional who could make decisions or someone who would simply carry out his wishes. In some offices, doing your job correctly can still put your job at risk. And sometimes, the person who hired you for your expertise is the same person who struggles when you actually use it.

"I guess he listens through his ass.😂 Does any ENT specialist know how to tell me why there's this amount of dirt in her ear? Is it wax or crap? In my head, there's no way there's this much dirt in the ear without the person being deaf."
