I’VE SPENT 25 YEARS CALLING GAMES. THIS IS THE PART THAT MAKES EVERY SCORE FEEL SMALL. I love the Friday night lights. The packed gyms. The close games. The call that makes your heart jump—and the way a team can bring an entire community together. Sports matter to me. They’ve been part of my life for more than 25 years. But they’re still a game. And sometimes life reminds us of that in a way you wish it never would. On Thursday, Southern Nazarene announced that safety Tyler Ulrich, just 21, had died after suffering a traumatic injury during Saturday’s game at Ouachita Baptist. I keep thinking about all the things we can get caught up in—the score, the rivalry, the next play, the season ahead. Then a young life is gone, and all of it falls quiet. Tyler was never just a name on a roster or a number on a jersey. He was someone’s son. Someone’s teammate. Someone’s friend. A young man with people who loved him and expected to see him again. That’s the story behind the image above. I wanted the stadium to feel quiet and Tyler’s presence to rise above it—not as a highlight or a headline, but as a reminder that the person beneath the helmet matters more than anything happening on the field. I can’t imagine what his family is carrying. I’m just so deeply sorry. My heart is with them, with his teammates and coaches, and with everyone at Southern Nazarene grieving this loss. Sports give us memories. They give us a place to belong. They bring us together. But no game is bigger than the people who play it. No final score matters more than the life beneath the helmet. Love your team. Cherish the moments. And hold your people a little closer. Please keep Tyler’s family, friends, teammates, coaches, and the entire SNU community in your prayers. Rest peacefully, Tyler. You mattered far beyond the game. 🙏 #TylerUlrich #SouthernNazarene #MoreThanAGame

“MOVE THE CHAINS” WAS TAKEN A LITTLE TOO LITERALLY. 😂🏈 Chad Fox and I are trying to call football, and the chain gang has apparently decided the down and distance is more of a suggestion. Those markers were supposed to stay put. Instead, we got the two-step. Third and seven? Third and seventeen? Buddy, we’re one more shuffle away from “third and I’ll get back to you.” 🤣 Once we started talking about them dancing with the markers, this video practically requested its own Benny Hill soundtrack. So I obliged. Watch the far sideline. Then listen to Chad and me trying to make sense of what we’re looking at. 😂 “Life will move on.” The markers already did. Somebody name this dance. I’m going with “The Chain Gang Shuffle,” but I KNOW somebody in these comments can beat that. 👇 Follow along for more live calls, Friday night football, and moments that make me glad the microphone was on. #CameronDole #FridayNightFootball #HighSchoolFootball #BennyHill #FootballHumor

GREAT PLAYER. BAD LOOK. And her explanation didn’t change my opinion. I believe A’ja Wilson was wrong to go over and confront that fan. Her postgame comments reinforced my disagreement. Here’s her explanation in context: Wilson said she normally avoids these exchanges and keeps playing. This time, she described seeing “a man come at me, taking steps at me and pointing at me.” She called that unacceptable regardless of his words or tone. She questioned why he was allowed to return after security determined he hadn’t done anything wrong. She said she apologized to her teammates for the technical, while maintaining that she would no longer tolerate someone approaching and pointing at her that way. The Fever said security interviewed the fan and witnesses and found no violation of the Fan Code of Conduct. That finding matters. A player’s anger cannot, by itself, establish that a spectator broke the rules. If a fan crosses a boundary, get security involved. Let them investigate and enforce the rules. Going over to confront that person yourself escalates the situation and creates another problem. Her apology to teammates addressed the technical. Her decision to confront a spectator still deserves scrutiny. If the WNBA wants big-league respect, it needs to insist on big-league professionalism. Composure under pressure. Consistent standards. Accountability that applies regardless of the name on the jersey. I’d hold an NBA superstar to the same expectation. Fans owe players basic decency. They don’t owe them admiration, agreement, or applause. And professional athletes have to handle opposing crowds without personally confronting spectators. Respect is earned through your conduct. Demanding it doesn’t earn it for you. For me, Wilson’s explanation doesn’t justify her response. Sorry, not sorry. If you think she was justified, tell me what made confronting him herself the right decision—and whether you’d defend that exact reaction from a player you can’t stand. #WNBA #WNBAPlayoffs #AjaWilson #IndianaFever #LasVegasAces #SportsTalk #CameronDole @WNBA @LVAces @IndianaFever

Ever sat in the car after you got home because you weren’t ready to turn the song off? The driveway is dark. You’ve got things to carry inside. But something coming through those speakers has finally put words to what you’ve been carrying around for months. So you sit. I’ve spent a lot of years introducing songs on the radio. Then life handed me some things I didn’t know how to introduce. Grief. Regret. Starting over when I thought I should have been further along by now. And songs I’d played a hundred times started finding places in me I’d gotten pretty good at talking around. That’s where this book began. 📼 WHEN THE SONG FINDS YOU My upcoming release. Twenty-one reflections about familiar music, faith, and rebuilding a life that no longer looks like the plan. Each one includes Scripture, honest questions, a prayer, and one small step forward. I wrote this from the bruised middle. There are things I wish I’d handled differently. People I miss. Prayers I’m still praying. And somehow, through all of it, God keeps giving me reasons to listen for what comes next. Putting that much of yourself on a page is a little terrifying, by the way. Apparently, talking into a microphone for a living does not make this part easier. 😂 But I keep thinking about someone opening this book and finally letting out a breath they didn’t realize they were holding. Somebody else understands. I hope it finds you like that. Coming soon in paperback, hardcover, and ebook. I’ll share the release date and ordering details here. Until then, tell me this: What song has made you stay in the car until it finished—and what did it bring back? #WhenTheSongFindsYou #CameronDole #FaithAndMusic

Some of the people we owe the biggest thank-you today are already halfway through a shift. They’re pouring coffee, taking care of somebody’s mama, stocking shelves, answering emergency calls, or fixing something the rest of us depend on without ever thinking about it. And plenty of others finally have a day off—and a body that’s been asking for one since about Wednesday. Happy Labor Day, friends. Years behind a microphone have given me the privilege of celebrating people out loud. But living in a small town teaches you how many people deserve that recognition whose names rarely get announced. The custodian getting a school ready before the kids arrive. The crew working beside the road in that Oklahoma heat. The person cleaning up long after everybody else has gone home. The business owner paying everyone else first and wondering what will be left. We know these people. We love these people. A whole lot of you reading this ARE these people. I hope you know how much your work matters. I hope you’re treated with respect, paid fairly, and given the chance to enjoy the life you work so hard to provide. And I hope we remember the people who pushed for safer workplaces and the right to go home with enough time and energy left to be part of their own families. If you’re off today, enjoy it. Eat something good. Sit beside somebody you love. Tell the same story they’ve heard fourteen times. Supervise the grill with a level of seriousness usually reserved for national security. Let a few things wait. If you’re working, thank you. I hope somebody makes your shift a little easier with some patience and kindness. My prayer today is for tired people to find rest, for worried households to catch a break, and for all of us to appreciate the neighbors whose work makes our everyday lives possible. God bless you and the people you’re working so hard to come home to. ❤️ #LaborDay #ThankYouWorkers #CameronDole

I hope you catch yourself laughing this week… and realize you didn’t have to force it. I hope someone asks, “How are you?” And I hope they stay long enough for the honest answer. I hope the thing you’ve been dreading turns out a little gentler than you expected. Because you could use that. Some of us have spent so long bracing for the next hard thing that peace feels suspicious. A quiet afternoon comes, and instead of enjoying it, we start asking: “What did I forget?” “What’s about to happen?” “Is it really safe to exhale?” But maybe it is. Maybe today is not a warning. Maybe the good moment is not a trick. Maybe you are allowed to receive it without waiting for something to ruin it. Lord, help us learn how to enjoy a good day again. Because there are people reading this who are rebuilding things they never expected to lose: Confidence. Relationships. Financial breathing room. Trust. The ability to look in the mirror and speak kindly to the person staring back. And rebuilding is exhausting when life refuses to pause. You still have to make dinner. Return the call. Show up for work. Pay the bill. Figure out why the car is making that noise now. Life keeps needing you while you are still trying to find your footing. That is why I keep coming back to this promise: “His mercies are new every morning.” —Lamentations 3:22–23 Every morning. Even after you lost your patience. Even when you are living with the consequences of choices you wish you could redo. Even when yesterday’s prayer was mostly silence… followed by one exhausted, honest word: “Please.” There is mercy for the person you are today. Not only for the version of you who has everything figured out. Not only for the version of you who never struggles. Not only for the version of you who gets it right the first time. For you. Today. So maybe this week, take care of one thing you have been putting off. Ask for the help. Send the apology. Make the appointment. Take the walk. Let somebody love you without making them argue their case first. And maybe—before everything is fixed—you let yourself enjoy something. Play the song. Sit on the porch. Order the coffee. Watch the sunset. Laugh with someone who knows the whole story and loves you anyway. There is still living to do right here. And if you have a little strength to spare, make someone else’s day lighter. Check on the friend who has gotten quiet. Invite them along. Listen when they finally start talking. Let someone experience a little of God’s kindness through yours. My prayer for this week is simple: Lord, help us notice the good. Help us receive the help. Help us have courage for the next step. And when joy shows up—even if it only stays for a minute— help us make room for it. It has been missed. ❤️ #Faith #Hope #Healing #Encouragement #MentalHealthMatters #GodIsNear #CameronDole

A NIGHT TO BE PROUD OF: HOBART 28, SAYRE 6 🏈 Well, Bearcat fans, that’s a pretty good way to bring football back home. Sayre put the first six points on the board Friday night. Hobart put up the next 28. And when the home opener was finished, the Bearcats walked off Phil Dalke Field with a 28–6 victory and a 2–0 start to the season. There was plenty to like about the way Hobart earned this one. The Bearcats answered that early deficit with a touchdown and an extra point to take a 7–6 lead into halftime. It was still anybody’s game, and the second half gave Hobart a chance to take control. They took it. In the third quarter, Eli Frank turned third-and-one into a touchdown, giving the Bearcats some breathing room. Two more touchdowns followed in the fourth, while the defense kept Sayre off the scoreboard for the rest of the night. Twenty-eight unanswered points. That takes work on both sides of the football. Turn it up and enjoy two of the scoring moments from the win: Watch the first touchdown highlight youtube.com/shorts/aWbrei1xC… and watch another Bearcat touchdown here youtube.com/shorts/1BwzT8njr…. After all these years behind a microphone, these nights still mean something to me. In a town like Hobart, the names on the roster are familiar. You know their families. You’ve watched these kids grow up. You understand how much it means to them to put that uniform on and give their hometown something to cheer about. Getting to help bring those moments to you alongside Jantz and Rod is a privilege I appreciate. To the players and coaches: congratulations on a home opener you can be proud of. To the families, cheerleaders, band, fans, and everyone following along on KTJS and Hobart Bearcat TV: thank you for supporting these kids. Share the highlights, subscribe for more Bearcat football, and let these guys hear from you. They earned a little celebration. Enjoy this one, Hobart. Two wins. A home opener to remember. Let’s go, Bearcats! 💙💛 #HobartBearcats #BearcatPride #OklahomaFootball #FridayNightLights #CameronDole

I’m going to say the part everybody keeps trying to smother with soft lighting and school-colored spin: This Texas Tech defense of Brendan Sorsby is not noble. It is not brave. It is not some deeply moving stand for second chances. It is a beautifully produced excuse factory with a quarterback depth chart attached. And I’m sorry, but some of us still remember when gambling was the one line sports absolutely, positively did not let you tap dance across. Baseball knew it. Basketball knew it. Football knew it. College athletics knew it. Every athlete who has ever sat through a compliance meeting knows it. You do not bet on games. You certainly do not bet on games connected to your own program. That is not complicated. That is not hidden in fine print. That is not some NCAA mystery written in invisible ink and stored behind a locked filing cabinet in Indianapolis. That is Day One stuff. That is “don’t touch the stove” stuff. That is “the bridge is out” stuff. And now Texas Tech wants everyone to gather around, dab our eyes, admire the production quality, and pretend this is really about compassion? No. Compassion is helping Brendan Sorsby get well. Compassion is making sure he has treatment, accountability, support, and people around him who care more about his soul than his stat line. Compassion is not pretending the rulebook suddenly caught a stomach virus because the quarterback room got uncomfortable. That’s not grace. That’s roster management wearing a halo. And that’s where this whole thing starts smelling like a booster-club candle called “Selective Accountability.” Because let’s be painfully honest. If this were a third-string offensive guard from a school ESPN only mentions during weather delays, there would be no emotional video. No moral campaign. No carefully scripted institutional defense. No dramatic music. No “we stand with our guy” tour. There would be a violation. There would be a consequence. There would be silence. But because it’s a quarterback who can help win games, suddenly the red line needs context, therapy lighting, and a legal team. Nope. Wrong. Try again. Sports cannot survive if gambling violations become public-relations projects. The integrity of the game cannot depend on how many boosters are nervous. Rules cannot only apply to the guys who are not talented enough to become inconvenient. And second chances do not have to include first-team reps. I hope Brendan Sorsby gets help. Truly. I hope he heals. I hope he grows. I hope five years from now this is a painful chapter in a much better story. But he does not need NCAA eligibility to become whole. He does not need a starting job to be supported. He does not need the rest of college football to pretend that a clear line was suddenly blurry just because Texas Tech found a camera crew and a sympathetic script. Sometimes love tells the truth. Sometimes support still says no. Sometimes consequences are not cruelty. And sometimes the most compassionate thing anyone can do is stop treating accountability like it’s a disease we need to cure. You crossed the line. Now the line has to matter. #BrendanSorsby #TexasTech #NCAA #CollegeFootball #SportsBetting #SportsIntegrity #AccountabilityMatters #PersonalResponsibility #CollegeFootballNews #NCAAFootball #CameronDole @espn @TexasTech @TexasTechFB @TechAthletics @Big12Conference
