마크 카니 캐나다 총리님과 정상회담을 가졌습니다. 1년 전 총리님의 초대로 G7 정상회의에 참석했던 기억이 생생한데, 벌써 1년이 지나 두 번째 G7 정상회의에서 만나게 되어 더욱 뜻깊은 시간이었습니다. 캐나다는 자유와 평화를 위해 함께 싸워준 소중한 친구이자, 한반도 평화와 번영에 기여해 온 핵심 우방국입니다. 이러한 깊은 신뢰와 유대감을 토대로, 양국의 협력 관계는 점차 지평을 넓혀가고 있습니다. 방산 강국이자 첨단 산업 기술력을 보유한 대한민국이야말로 캐나다의 방산 역량을 강화하고, 에너지 강국으로의 발전을 도울 최적의 파트너라 확신합니다. 총리님께서 강조해 오신 ‘유사 입장국 연대’를 추진하는 과정에서도 양국의 호혜적 협력이 빛을 발할 것이라 생각합니다. 캐나다의 성공적인 북중미 월드컵 개최도 축하드립니다. 2002년 월드컵이 우리 온 국민에게 큰 기쁨과 자부심을 안겨주었듯이, 이번 북중미 월드컵이 세계인을 하나로 단결시키는 축제로서 캐나다 국민께 큰 기쁨이 되기를 기대합니다. 앞으로 카니 총리님과 더 긴밀히 소통하며 함께 양국 관계의 새로운 도약을 이끌어 가겠습니다. I met with Prime Minister @MarkJCarney of Canada. I still vividly remember attending last year's G7 Summit at Prime Minister Carney's invitation, making it especially meaningful to meet him again one year later at my second G7 Summit. Canada is a cherished friend that fought alongside with Korea in defense of freedom and peace, and a key partner that has contributed to peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula. Built on deep trust and a strong bond, our two countries continue to broaden the horizons of cooperation. I am confident that the Republic of Korea—a global leader in the defence industry with advanced industrial capabilities—is the ideal partner to help strengthen Canada's defence capabilities and support its growth into an energy powerhouse. I also believe our mutually beneficial cooperation will shine even brighter as we advance the "solidarity among like-minded countries" that Prime Minister Carney has championed. I also congratulate Canada on its successful hosting of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America. Just as the 2002 World Cup brought great joy and pride to the Korean people, I hope this tournament will serve as a celebration that unites people around the world and brings lasting joy to Canadians. Going forward, I will remain in close communication with Prime Minister Carney as we work together to take our bilateral relationship to even greater heights.

마크 카니 캐나다 총리님 @MarkJCarney 과 양국관계의 호혜적 발전방안에 대해 깊이있는 대화를 나누었습니다. 한국과 캐나다는 유사입장국으로서 함께 할 수 있는 일이 매우 많습니다. 캐나다와 대한민국의 변치않을 우정을 기원합니다.

캐나다는 우리와 동맹에 준하는 핵심 우방국입니다. 6·25 전쟁 당시 수교 이전임에도 미국과 영국에 이어 세 번째로 많은 2만 7천여 명을 파병했으며, 현재도 한반도 정책을 지지하고 태평양 지역에서 공동 훈련을 실시하는 등 역내 안보 협력에 적극 참여하고 있습니다. 한-캐나다 관계는 안보, 경제, 인적 교류를 아우르는 포괄적 전략 동반자로서 꾸준히 발전해 왔습니다. 양국 간 교역 규모는 FTA 발효 이후 크게 늘었고, 캐나다 내 재외동포 사회 역시 양국을 잇는 든든한 가교 역할을 하고 있습니다. 오늘 마크 카니 캐나다 총리님과 통화를 나누며 안보, 경제, 에너지, 문화 등 여러 분야에서 협력을 한층 더 강화해 나가자는 데 의견을 같이했습니다. 또한 중동 정세의 평화적 해결과 호르무즈 해협 항행의 자유 보장을 위한 국제사회의 노력에도 함께 힘을 모으기로 했습니다. 북태평양을 공유하는 대한민국과 캐나다가 인도-태평양 지역에서 신뢰받는 파트너로서 더욱 확고히 자리 잡아 가길 바랍니다. 앞으로 더욱 단단해질 우리의 협력과 우정을 기대합니다. Canada is a key partner to Korea, comparable to an ally. Even before our two countries established diplomatic relations, Canada sent as many as 27,000 troops to support us during the Korean War. This marked the third-largest contribution, following the United States and the United Kingdom. To this day, Canada continues to support our policy toward North Korea and engages actively in regional security cooperation, including through joint exercises in the Pacific. Our bilateral relations have steadily evolved within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership encompassing security, economic cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges. Our bilateral trade has expanded significantly since the Korea-Canada Free Trade Agreement (FTA) took effect. The Korean community in Canada continues to serve as a robust bridge connecting our two countries. In today's phone call with Prime Minister @MarkJCarney, we shared the view that our two countries should further strengthen cooperation across a wide range of areas, including security, economic cooperation, energy, and culture. We also reaffirmed our commitment to join forces in the international community's efforts toward resolving the situation in the Middle East peacefully and ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. As countries sharing the North Pacific region, I hope to see Korea and Canada further strengthening our standing as reliable partners in the Indo-Pacific region. I look forward to ever-deepening cooperation and friendship between our two countries in the years ahead.
