66 years ago, in 1960, John F. Kennedy faced the exact same kind of vile religious bigotry that Abdul El-Sayed is up against today in 2026. As a Muslim representing Michigan, El-Sayed is an absolutely fabulous candidate — yet history is repeating itself. Looking ahead another 66 years to 2060, you have to wonder: which religious group will be the du jour target for vilification then?
Hate, racism, and bigotry have always been America's original sin. If we are to progress as a nation, it is imperative that white supremacy — and the Christian nationalism that fuels it — be eradicated by emotional intelligence and a higher moral consciousness.
