I wanted to be able to find something good in Islam, because we’ve all been told for the last 25 years that it’s this wonderful religion being twisted by extremists, but that’s just not true and once you admit that to yourself it’s very freeing.
Islam is, objectively, a _terrible_ religion, with a two-tier system of morality that treats Muslims well and everyone else badly. And that’s before you even mention the barbarous treatment of women, which is damning enough on its own to condemn the whole thing, even if the rest of it had value. But it doesn’t. Jihad — war — is one of the five pillars, ffs.
Islam condones slavery, forced marriage, domestic violence, the rape of children, and the genital mutilation of women and girls. The countries where it holds sway are horrible places to live, especially for women, and the more devout the country is, the worse it is to live there. Even places like Turkey, which is officially secular, have young girls sold into marriage with adult men, and incredibly high rates of femicide and domestic violence. In countries like Yemen and Afghanistan, up to 30% of girls are sold into marriage as children — and these customs are being imported into the West.
Islam offers Muslim men full control over Muslim women. It offers Muslim women nothing but the chance to bear the next generation of Muslim men.
What about the Christians being slaughtered in Nigeria? Did islam destroy their lives?
We have major theological disagreements with the Jews, but it isn't Jews who are slaughtering Christians around the world right now. When the Jews start slaughtering Christians, I will join you in stomping that out. Fair...?
I am constantly told my interpretation of the quran is incorrect. As a kaffir (in every sense of the word), my opinion is admittedly irrelevant. The problem is not with me though, it's the 10's of millions of believers who coincidentally interpret the book precisely the same way I did. I think your outreach ought to be directed at them...🤷
