Patrick Stewart. Turned up so early and so unobtrusively to be a star in the reasonably priced car, we mistook him for a delivery driver and asked him to go round the back. Took his hat off and said, “But I’m the captain of the Enterprise”. Fucking nice guy.

Another successful fix ⏤ after 49 years and 16 billion miles! 🔧 Engineers recently turned off devices on Voyager 1 and substituted them with lower-power alternatives. Nicknamed the “Big Bang,” the energy-saving effort will allow the remaining instruments to operate longer.  ½

Terrible News. After 30+ years of continual faithful service my @Timex Ironman Triathlon has died. Thought it just needed its usual 5+ year battery change but a transistor fell out. I have worn it just about every day of those 30+ years so it feels like losing a close friend.

We're looking back to our SAREX roots today. In 1993 STS-57 flew with two hams onboard the Shuttle Endeavour. Then President Clinton took note of the activities when he spoke to the crew in-flight.

On this day in 1983, Sally Ride launched aboard Space Shuttle Challenger on STS‑7, becoming the first American woman to fly in space. Beyond this historic milestone, Dr. Ride's passion for inspiring young people to explore science and math is part of her lasting legacy.
