You want to know why I hate North Carolina’s population boom? Look no further than my birthplace: Wilmington.
I was blessed to spend my adolescence in the Port City, back when it still felt like home.
Local culture was strong, the festivals along the riverfront were part of who we were, and you didn’t spend your day worrying about whether you were safe. You could get across town in twenty minutes. Kids played in the streets. Teenagers roamed the city without their parents fearing for their safety.
Then Wilmington started growing, and little by little, the place I loved began disappearing.
Outsiders took over city council. Housing prices skyrocketed, pushing the very people whose families built Wilmington into surrounding areas. Festivals were destroyed, landmarks lost the names generations had known, and statues came down to appease the woke mob. Wetlands were destroyed to squeeze in more housing, and historic oaks were ripped out to make room for palm trees. Traffic became as miserable as Raleigh or Charlotte. And now even the adults need to keep their heads on a swivel because there aren’t enough cops to keep up with rising crime.
All in the name of growth.
I watched a place that once felt like paradise turn into my idea of hell.
And the hardest part?
The people who turned Wilmington into such a desirable place are the very ones who’ve been priced out, pushed aside, and told to get out of the way.
This is what happens when a community prioritizes population growth over the people, history, and culture that made it worth living in.
So before you start cheering for more development and another boom in population, stop and think about what you’re actually asking for.
Growth isn’t progress, and a bigger population doesn’t equal a better place to live.
You can love North Carolina and still refuse to watch it be loved to death.

It's not just @DukeEnergy killing Charlotte's trees.
Adam's Outdoor the company whose motto is "billboards are beautiful" loves cutting down trees!
"We really want them to not cut any more of these trees," Undercurrent Coffee owner Todd Huber told reporters of Adams Outdoor removing trees behind his business.
But by 1pm today, more trees had come down.

Odd that CMPD would address this issue in this way considering they allow these meetups to happen.
"In a matter of seconds, what started as a social gathering becomes a situation with life-changing and sometimes life-ending consequences."
Hear from Major Stephen Fischbach about the dangers of chipeos and street takeovers, events that can quickly escalate and turn deadly, as witnessed this past weekend. Our detectives are working diligently with the community to monitor these large-scale gatherings to try and stop them from becoming violent incidents. Attending one of these meetups may seem harmless to some, but being present puts you at risk of arrest or charges for any illegal activity taking place, and an even greater risk of becoming a victim if violence breaks out.
If you witness any large-scale car meet-up that is taking over a public space late at night or early in the morning, please call 9-1-1.

Chipeo aka Car Meets: In the Dominican Republic and among Dominican/Puerto Rican communities (such as in New York or Charlotte), a chipeo (or chuchero) is an informal car meet or gathering.
Just another attempt by liberal Charlotte electeds to legitimize illegals.
The longest World Series game by time is Game 3 of the 2018 World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Boston Red Sox, which lasted 7 hours and 20 minutes (18 innings) and ended with a walk-off home run by Max Muncy for a 3–2 Dodgers win.

South Carolina has no need of upstate New Yorkers, Ohioans who think they're Conservative, Pittsburgh Yinzers who fell in love with Myrtle Beach, or New Jersey tax refugees.
You all may as well be Somali fraudsters, Indian help-desk workers and fresh-off-the-boat Muslims looking for sympathy in a new land.
I dont care for your bagels, greasy floppy pizzas or scrapple any more than I do the halal garbage the Somali immigrants crave.
Your Buffalo Bills team garb may as well be a hijab. Your stupid Buckeye banner may as well be a Palestine flag.
You're all invaders, as far as I'm concerned.
You can be South Carolinian when you renounce your previous state, Choose to be a Gamecock or a Tiger, and start eating fried chicken like decent people do.
Assimilate or beat it.

Needed FAA approval of a grass strip runway near Waxhaw. Power lines were just 6 feet too close and moving them to the other side of the road that ran parallel would fix the problem. The guy from Union Power Cooperative argued that utility poles were a "sign of progress".

There are a couple of impressive trees in Union County that are being targeted for removal.

During Hugo my parents home never lost power. In the last ten years the power goes out at least 2-3 times a year.
