"Every single time the American people give us power, the only thing that we try to do is to trim down the thing that they gave us control over?" @JDVance in 2023 on the Right's use of power in the federal government.

Relentless fear-mongering about an encroaching digital catastrophe massively distracts us from the real challenge: the collapse of our pre-digital society has already occurred. This week, alumni, friends of The Claremont Institute, and supporters joined us for a packed event to hear @jamespoulos speak on Postapocalyptic Cybernetics.

Left unsaid—this is a non-American seeking to define US AI policy via doom and gloom. For ideologues who reject any hint of national identity, though, this is a distinction without a difference.

Thanks to @johnrobertsFox. Both extremes of the AI debate miss. There is neither a case for doom nor a sideshow. Value will come from businesses applying AI in a way that preserves their data and IP. The danger is a regime of frontier labs that treats America as an afterthought, and innovation as dangerous.

“The central question for us 25 years later is simple: Is America more secure?” @BrianTKennedy1 writes that we should have the courage to fight in defense of American civilization against the ideology that took so many lives in 2001. hubs.li/Q04xdLzv0

Here’s the essay, as promised: americanmind.org/salvo/the-h…
We’ll have an essay out tomorrow at @theammind from @BrianTKennedy1 that takes up America’s ruling class’s many failures of war and strategy after 9/11–with this nonsense from Bush as one of the major themes.

Gloria Steinem's death prompts an evaluation of the successes, failures and blindspots of her brand of feminism. It was successful in remaking the world, but it had real cultural and natural limits too. And bears blame for our dysfunctions. @theammind americanmind.org/salvo/glori…

A corporate welfare economy has an iron grip on the defense contractor industry. Section 8(a) of the Small Business Administration's Business Development Program has bred "disadvantaged small businesses” to profit from being middlemen. The 8(a) program is a woke disaster. The Claremont Institute’s new report shows why the whole program needs to be dismantled.

The New York Times just lost its first defamation case in over 50 years. Citing the new book from Claremont’s Washington Fellow Carson Holloway, @georgeabtsports argues in @FDRLST that Kai Spears' $9.25M verdict against the Times exposes just how thin the legal reasoning behind NYT v. Sullivan really is.  hubs.li/Q04vhDws0

One can consternate about this potential until the end times, but it reflects a larger reality of modern war. As the barrier to entry to participation (but not victory) in hi-intensity coflict gets lower, static military installations once considered "safe" will become inhospitable and imprudent. In an era that demands strategic focus, more decisions like this are reasonable.

Billions of dollars are flowing into Effective Altruism, a movement that asks Americans to care less about their nation, religion, family, and traditions… in favor of abstract “humanity.” @WilliamThibeau on why EA achieving its utopia will entail destroying ours. 👇

On @FoxFriendsFirst : You don’t have to blindly trust the plan. You don’t have to mindlessly doom. The last two weeks of conflict can yield a better foreign policy outcome for America. @POTUS doesn’t decide by ideology, but by a pragmatic assessment of operational reality.
This morning, Director of Claremont’s American Military Project @WilliamThibeau joined @FoxFriendsFirst on the Iran War and the Russia-Ukraine War.

America's strikes this week are punishment, not escalation. Foreign policy outcomes require a balance of military force and diplomacy. The admin is, unique to the past, getting that balance right to turn the page on Iran and the ME. A great debut on @foxnewsnight with @tracegallagher
