DON'T MISS! "Steelmakers" Exhibit at Griffin Museum of Science and Industry Celebrating the Material and Workers that Built Chicago "Griffin Museum of Science and Industry will debut Steelmakers, a brand-new exhibit exploring the science and stories behind one of the world’s most essential and versatile materials, on March 6. Through hands-on experiences, a collection of wide-ranging artifacts and oral histories, this exhibit highlights how steel became an indispensable part of our modern world, contributing to expansive industrial growth and creating deeply rooted steelworker communities right here in Chicago and the Calumet Region." msichicago.org/press/press-r… @msichicago Steel Beams from Chicago’s Home Insurance Building (1885-1931), the world's first skyscraper. It was an honor to get to speak at this event on Saturday, what a fun celebration!
Incredibly joyful celebration of the Warehouse at its Landmark Dedication Block Party on Saturday. So much work to get it protected, but worth every minute! 📸: Ward Miller / Preservation Chicago @ChooseChicago @ChicagoDCASE @AldConway

40 years ago, the TV movie Mazes & Monsters premiered on CBS and taught us all that fantasy role playing games were deadly and that Tom Hanks was a cleric named Pardieu. Still is, to my understanding.

Chicago: The town so nice, they named it once! But it's still a city full of Sickos, so to help de-stress the Patriotic Americans who were visiting during the recent DNC, I created this coloring page for the new premiere print edition of The Onion:

An old sign revealed at 4822 N. Broadway (the building just north of the Uptown Theatre) says, "CHOW MEIN." Maybe a remnant of Harry Chan Chin Wai's Uptown Village, which opened there in 1926? Hat tip to @AndisRobeznieks for spotting this sign.

Stratford Square Mall circa 1982
Final days of the massive 1.4M SF Stratford Square Mall in Bloomingdale, designed by RTKL. Worth a trip to DuPage to see this well-designed mall that was far too close to Woodfield and not on major highway

"The Mies van der Rohes" is a multi-layered portrait of modernity and a moving family saga. Based on private and unpublished archive footage, images and documents, the film tells the story of the iconic architect Mies van der Rohe - from a female perspective. His wife Ada, his daughters Georgia, Manna and Traudel, and his lover Lilly Reich seize the opportunities of the new era, but also experience the limitations of old patterns. When Mies emigrates to the USA in 1938, they struggle - alone - through the barbarity of the Nazi era and the war. © Filmcoopi Zurich #Bauhaus #Architecture #Design #Modernity
