Literally during these events he said more ordinary people you don’t even know yet will rise up to fill the needed leadership gap, and Zohran’s campaign followed. The rest is now written.
this was the catalyst. when the party bosses scoffed at bernie, he kept pushing. i saw these rallies firsthand. ppl were looking for answers to what had taken place in 24. bernie became the true leader of the party. his impact is felt w his rhetoric echoing through the most moderate campaigns this past year.

Raising the bar to where it should be.
Mamdani is like your first legitimately nice boyfriend, and made the rest of your friend group say “maybe I don’t have to date losers anymore either”.

All over the world, normal people put their bodies into the meat grinder of authoritarian crackdown and torture chambers. I’m glad I went down to my kids’ elementary school gym to vote today, but not sure we can claim any glory on the world stage for standing up to autocracy.
For all the shit people talk about the United States and American voters, I'm having a hard time thinking of other countries where people have punished an authoritarian power grab this quickly and decisively at the ballot box

I am so happy that Bernie Sanders is with us today to be able to see the fruits of his labor. He cultivated a whole generation of young leaders through the movement he spawned who are now winning seats everywhere. And he gets to live to witness it. Thank you, Bernie.

Sri Lanka’s direction on digital payments is right, but infrastructure alone isn’t enough. Market remains too bank-centric. Need a broader fintech/non-bank ecosystem to build specialised solutions for SMEs, businesses, agriculture, tourism, freelancers & other underserved sectors

If this is happening then doubly well-done. The people of this country deserve efficiency and dignity with their mobility. Will watch this space.
Private Bus Challenge: Association to Launch Conductorless, Card-Only Service to Rival Metro 🚍 The Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association is preparing to introduce a modern bus service aimed at competing with the government’s Metro buses. Key features of the new service: 💺 Seated passengers only — no standing allowed; capacity limited strictly to available seats 💰 Fares approximately 1.5 times regular bus rates 💳 Conductorless operation — payments accepted only via card 🛑 Limited, fixed stops for more efficient routes 📱 A dedicated mobile app planned for booking and payments The government’s push to introduce Metro services is fostering healthy competition and driving the country in a progressive direction — exactly what is needed.

An absolutely star. It’s because of her incredible expertise and her openness. Bravo @ManikkageYasuni
Took a little break from social media and came back to realise that Dr Yasuni Reveals has reached 120,000 followers on Facebook in just six months! 🥹❤️ It all started on Twitter! Speaking openly about health topics that are still considered taboo wasn’t easy then, & it still isn’t easy now. But these are conversations we need to have, & I’m so glad I started. Extremely grateful for the support, the encouragement, & the warmth with which you’ve welcomed me & what I do. Thank you for being part of this journey. ❤️

Sir Ian McKellen pays tribute to the late Patrick Stewart: “Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love. We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we weren't in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. “But Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to risk-getting lost in Hollywood for years and years?". Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in London's West End and on Broadway. America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire.”

I remember listening to Sir Patrick Stewart read Shakespeare’s sonnets during the COVID-19 lockdown. I waited for his readings and sought them out. They brought comfort to me, as I am sure they did to many others, during an uncertain and difficult time. Thank you for everything - the wisdom of Shakespeare and the adventures of Captain Picard. Rest in peace, Sir Patrick.

I am for the crackdown on corruption & crime, yet it is vital that we do not trample on rights & enable injustice and intimidation of the people. The current govt that once stood against the PTA, must rethink this.
Replying to @amnestysasia
The Prevention of Organised Crimes bill, tabled in Sri Lanka’s parliament on 6 October, contains provisions that would make confessions extracted under duress admissible in court, enable the detention of suspects for up to two years without trial, and ban the media from reporting on court proceedings. The bill also confers the police with wide powers to conduct searches without a warrant, and imprison people for not providing information to authorities.   The bill mirrors many elements of Sri Lanka’s repressive Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA), which has been misused since the 1970s to target minorities and repress dissent.  “This extraordinary bill is the most alarming in a string of repressive laws proposed by the National People’s Power (NPP) government. It reintroduces most of the very worst elements of the PTA and applies them to a wide range of offences,” said Smriti Singh, Amnesty International’s South Asia Director.

Umm the French Revolution circa 1789-99 might want some credit.
🇫🇷 Is France doing a Sri Lanka? 🇱🇰 After four weekends of protests, French government is in crisis mode 🏫 Schools in crisis — students started it in September: no teachers, leaking roofs, classrooms without chairs. Underfunded for years, ignored until they hit the streets. 💸 Cost of living exploding — gas, groceries, rent. One of the world's richest nations, and ordinary families can't keep up. 🗳️ Macron's exit door — his term ends next year. Hard-left leader Mélenchon says protests continue "every week" until he goes. A national strike is set for November 5. Sri Lanka 2022 showed a small island nation could shake a government. France 2026 is proving even a superpower isn't immune when enough people say enough. 🌍
