MAJ GEN YASH MOR, IS THIS ABOUT AGNIVEERS OR ABOUT CLAIMING PERSONAL VICTORY? On October 11, Maj Gen @YashMor5 expressed concern over the future of the 75% Agniveers who couldn't secure permanent retention. He wanted the Government to provide them better opportunities. Fair enough! Now, when the Government moves towards offering these very Agniveers another two years of service, better financial prospects and another opportunity to compete for regular military positions, what does he do? Calls it a ROLLBACK, declares the scheme FOOLISH and congratulates himself for his “courage”! Seriously, General? You wanted the concerns addressed. The Government responds to those concerns. And instead of acknowledging the improvement, you present it as your personal triumph? What an extraordinary display of selective appreciation! The Army leadership had already described Agnipath as an evolving scheme, with a review of retention requirements envisaged for December 2026. An extension of service doesn't abolish Agnipath. Nor does it automatically restore the previous recruitment system. Surely, someone with your military experience understands that distinction! And that line, “Do you appreciate my consistent stand?” General, the real question isn't whether people appreciate your stand. It's whether you can appreciate a policy improvement without turning it into a victory parade for yourself. Criticising a policy is perfectly legitimate. But demanding improvements and then calling those very improvements a defeat for the Government is a rather curious definition of consistency! The Agniveers deserve a serious discussion about their future, not a competition over who gets to take the credit.
