Fantastic opportunity for SLT members of @RCSLT to apply for up to £800 to attend a CPD event. CPD can be prohibitively expensive - particularly in roles where self-funding is the only option. Here is the solution 😁⬇️⬇️
⏰1 week left to apply for a minor grant!🗒️ Our minor grants are available for members to enhance their CPD by paying up to £800 for courses, attendance at events, conferences or training materials. Apply by 18 February! Click here: rcslt.org/members/funding/#s… #slpeeps #speechies

Our reports summarise the evidence base but don’t mandate session frequency as we are mindful of service constraints. Glad to see that providing this information empowered this service to make an evidence based decision! #EBP #CAS

Thrilled to hear our report helped an SLT to provide twice-weekly sessions for a client, beyond their usual service offer, aligning with the #CAS evidence base

Super helpful to hear from @JiTitterington that the @ijlcd now accepts submissions on quality improvement projects that focus on applying evidence to practice and adhere to SQUIRE Guidelines 🌟 You can access the SQUIRE Guidelines here: bit.ly/3XH53cX #RCWorkshop2024

If you are and #SLT who works with children with speech disorders, someone who teaches clinical phonetics, or a student SLT please do take a look at our website. Lots of cool features like a clickable #ExtIPA chart. Feedback welcome!

🆕🆓🔓This short note by Martin J. Ball outlines changes to 3 of the diacritics on the extIPA chart & provides an updated version of the entire 2024 chart. 🤔Now, I wish I had a CLEAR JPEG of this chart. @tandfmedicine 🙏❓#phonetics #ClinicalLinguistics doi.org/10.1080/02699206.202…

We must remember that & accept responsibility for the consequences of decisions & recommendations that we make. As @DrHelenSLT reminded #NAPLIC24, it is our professional duty to fight for better funding & support for children with #SLCN. @RCSLT @SLT_Francesca

If we recommend SLTA support when we know a child needs a SLT, then we will end up with a few more SLTAs & far fewer SLTs. One of the standards of care we are required to adhere to is to ‘Promote & protect the interests of service users’ i.e. the children on our caseload.

We must ‘say what we see’ & let others worry about whether resources are available to meet the needs of the child. If a child has #CAS & needs intensive SLT, then we must say so. If a child has #DLD & would be best supported in a resource such as a C&I unit, then we must say so.

🆕🆓🔓#apraxia While #CAS is largely framed as a MOTOR speech disorder due to movement planning or programming deficits, #LANGUAGE & #LITERACY impairments occur in >90% of individuals. Neuroimaging shows perturbation of linguistic AND motor pathways. nature.com/articles/s41380-0…

I often share Prochaska and DiClemente's stages of change model with clients to help them to understand the fact that it requires time, focus, support & self-compassion. I recently came across this nice visual (sorry, not sure who to credit) which complements the model well.
