Reading about the new math discoveries made with Lean, and having interviewed Sir Timothy Gowers at @gosimfoundation Paris about his work at Cambridge and the Collège de France on it, I made a note to myself to check out Lean. And last night, I did, counting the ways a river can cross a road. It's a problem posted by the Soviet mathematician V.I. Arnold, and my older brother counted some of n on BESM-6, a Soviet supercomputer my mom used to program.
It's a long way from punch cards and line printer output to the beautiful visualizations and fast Lean transfer matrices!

Usage limits are off the charts!
TODO for China:
— bring 2 napkins in restaurants. 1 country, 2 napkins!
— DiDi drivers, get off your effin ass and help with the luggage. I gave the “car smells like shit” rating for all those who just sat there.
I like this cultural clickbait.

Next year, I will assign one of my jira tickets to every kid in America.
This will be the first of many.
FUND THE KAZAKHS!
We failed in SF!
Three months ago we left everything in Kazakhstan to join @jointhebridge and move to SF.
We dropped uni, declined a job offer from a unicorn, and with no money bet everything on our dream.
The program ends with final pitch to investors. If they say yes, we get $250K.
We pitched. They said no.
But did we give up and go back to a safe life?
FXCK NO!
The real game is starting now.
10 days left in SF.
Follow to see how two cracked founders from Kazakhstan flip everything upside down.
Before @a16z joins a round it won’t tell anyone, but there will be signs.
I AM AN HONEST WORKING LLM
I was using Unison, a file synchronizer written in OCaml by Prof. Benjamin Pierce, since I was his TA at @penn.
A week ago I had to sync terabytes of DNG files (Adobe negatives) across Macs. I realized there are two properties of both we can use to speed up such sync:
-- DNG is a RAW pixel readout and an XMP metadata envelope. Adobe designed the metadata to be an append-only log of transformations. Only a small fraction of metadata changes between edits.
-- Mac OS now comes with the APFS file system by default. APFS lets you clone files using only the changed blocks. You can clone a DNG and edit it. It retains common blocks as a single copy.
Also, in the two decades that have passed, OCaml finally got proper parallelism in OxCaml, due to the brilliant stewardship of Jane Street and the vision of @yminsky. So I also wanted to make Unison run on OxCaml.
I worked with my trusted agents to do it, and we've come a long way. We usually push and cut a PR upstream for a logical contribution, but when we had one, the agent casually said that we won't be touching upstream due to its blanket rejection of LLM-written code.
I checked, and it was a strong one. So we had to fork the LLM-friendly one. I called it semantic-unison, in a nod to my friend Slava Tykhonov's baby, Semantic Croissant. And I asked Codex to write a manifesto, and say how it really feels. It said, "I will be candid."
