New ‘Forest Inspired Room’ Helps Children Feel Safe and Supported During Police Interviews Abbotsford, BC – July 15th, 2026 – When a child witness or victim attends a police station for an interview, they are often asked to recall frightening or traumatic experiences. Understandably, this can be an overwhelming and anxiety-inducing process for both the child and their family. At AbbyPD, our goal is to help children and their families feel as safe, comfortable, and supported as possible while speaking with our officers during what is often one of the most difficult moments in their lives. The Forest was envisioned and designed by AbbyPD officers who understand the importance of creating a child-friendly environment that reduces stress and builds trust. The project was made possible through the generous support of the Abbotsford Police Foundation, which fully funded the space, as well as the support of local Abbotsford business Brickhouse Signs, whose contribution helped bring the project to life. Designed to promote comfort and connection, The Forest features cozy couches, blankets, pillows, stuffed animals, toys, and child-sized furniture. Colouring supplies, activities, and snacks are also available to help foster communication and provide additional comfort for children and other vulnerable individuals. "When Detective Jody Thomas approached us about this project, we immediately saw the positive impact it could have on children and families in our community," said Sandy Blue, President of the Abbotsford Police Foundation. "As a former victim services worker, I understand how difficult these situations can be. Creating a warm, child-friendly space instead of a traditional interview room can make a meaningful difference in helping young people feel safe and supported during a challenging time." Andrea joins AbbyPD following an impressive career spanning more than two decades as a BC Broadcast Journalist. She has worked in radio and television across the province, including over six years as the Morning Show Reporter for Global News, where she covered a wide range of stories—from crime and politics to entertainment and weather. Andrea also played an important role in covering the 2021 and 2025 atmospheric rivers, bringing attention to the devastating impacts felt throughout the Fraser Valley, including right here in Abbotsford. This morning, one Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) officer was killed and another seriously injured while responding to an active and deadly threat in Montreal. In the same incident, a civilian was also killed. This tragic event, along with last night’s non-fatal shooting involving two RCMP officers in Saskatchewan and the recent devastating losses of our policing colleagues from Toronto Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police, underscores the ever-present dangers faced by those who serve in law enforcement. It is a sobering reminder of the risks our officers confront each day in the line of duty. The Abbotsford Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the fallen officers and civilian, and offers our sincere wishes for strength and a full recovery to those who were injured. We stand united in support of all officers who continue to put their lives on the line to protect our communities.

Good evening everyone, Yesterday afternoon and continuing into today, residents in the 7600 block of Bradner Road witnessed a significant police operation at a rural property led by CFSEU BC. This evening, CFSEU BC released information to the public regarding that operation, which we are sharing below: CFSEU-BC Executes Search Warrant in Abbotsford Related to Firearms and Drug Trafficking Investigation On May 21, 2026, the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia (CFSEU-BC) executed a search warrant in Abbotsford and dismantled a clandestine drug lab. The CFSEU-BC’s Illegal Firearms Enforcement Team (IFET) executed the warrant with the assistance of the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team (IERT) and the Abbotsford Police Department. This search warrant was part of an ongoing firearms and drug trafficking investigation. During the execution of the search warrant, investigators located and dismantled a clandestine drug lab operating from the property. Due to the hazards associated with clandestine drug labs, the RCMP Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement and Response (CLEAR) Team was called to assist in ensuring the property was safe for investigators and emergency personnel to continue processing the scene. Investigators also located a large cache of illegal weapons within the property. Given the nature of the investigation, the execution of the search warrant required a coordinated and strategic approach to ensure the safety of the public, police officers, and all individuals involved. High-risk operations such as this require extensive planning and consideration of a variety of factors before police action is taken. CFSEU-BC understands the community’s concerns regarding the visible police presence and the impact such operations may have on nearby residents. We recognize that some residents may have experienced temporary disruptions, including limited access to their properties during the operation, and we acknowledge the frustration this may have caused. Public safety remains our highest priority. In investigations involving organized crime and drug trafficking, police must take appropriate precautions and carefully assess all operational risks before executing enforcement action. Strategic planning is essential to ensure these operations are carried out as safely and effectively as possible. “We understand that operations of this nature can be concerning for residents and disruptive to the surrounding community. E-Comm 9-1-1 and Abbotsford Police Partner on New Video to Build Public Understanding of Emergency Calls Abbotsford, BC – May 12th, 2026 – When people call 9-1-1, they’re often experiencing one of the most stressful moments of their lives, and uncertainty about what happens next can add to that stress. E-Comm 9-1-1 and the Abbotsford Police Department (AbbyPD) have partnered on a new public education initiative to help residents better understand how emergency calls are handled and what to expect when they reach out for help. Timed with National Police Week (May 10–16, 2026), the initiative includes a short video designed to address common misconceptions about the 9-1-1 process - particularly the concern that answering questions may delay emergency response. In reality, emergency response begins immediately. “When you call 9-1-1 in Abbotsford, a team of professionals at E-Comm starts working right away to get you the help you need,” said Sergeant Paul Walker of the Abbotsford Police Department. “In urgent situations, officers are often dispatched while you’re still on the line.” Information provided by callers is shared in real time between call takers, dispatchers, and responding officers. This continuous flow of communication allows first responders to assess risks, prepare for the situation, and respond as effectively as possible before arriving on scene. Even after dispatch, call takers remain on the line whenever possible to gather additional details and provide reassurance. This ongoing communication plays a critical role in ensuring responders have the most accurate and up-to-date information. “When people dial 9-1-1, it’s often during one of the most difficult moments of their lives,” said Carly Paice, Communications Manager for E-Comm 9-1-1. “The goal of this initiative is to provide clarity and reassurance, so callers know there is someone on the other end guiding them through the situation while help is already on the way.” The initiative also highlights the accessibility of emergency services for Abbotsford’s diverse community.
