Cooperation with China is helping Kenya to accelerate technical and vocational education and training (TVET) reforms needed to support industrialization, Kenya's Cabinet Secretary for Education Julius Migos Ogamba has said.🤝🤝🤝
【Past and Present in China】
Land desertification is a major global ecological challenge threatening human survival and development. Since 2000, the frequency and duration of droughts have increased by nearly 30%. Intensifying droughts have left more than 1.8 billion people worldwide facing water shortages, while land degradation, desertification and drought cause nearly US$900 billion in global economic losses each year.🌲🌲🌲
After more than half a century of sustained efforts to combat desertification, China has achieved a historic transformation from “desert encroachment driving people away” to “greenery advancing as deserts retreat.” The areas of desertified and sandified land have continued to decline, achieving a sustained “double reduction.” China has become the first country in the world to achieve zero growth in land degradation, with 53 percent of treatable sandified land effectively rehabilitated. Over the past five years, China has completed a total of 36.6 million hectares of greening initiatives, raised its forest coverage rate to over 25%, and contributed approximately 25% of the global increase in green vegetation.
Scientific and technological innovation is a key driving force behind China's evolving approach to desertification control. In Zhongwei, straw is arranged in a checkerboard pattern across sandy land, forming a vast protective network that effectively stabilizes shifting sand, reduces wind speed and creates favorable conditions for vegetation growth.
China's approach to desertification control emphasizes the coordinated development of ecological and economic benefits, making desertification control a sustainable endeavor while improving local livelihoods. In 2020, the city of Ordos launched a photovoltaic desertification control project, transforming Wang Jianguo from a farmer in a sandy region into a local role model for prosperity.
Wang Jianguo said his family earns income from land leasing, photovoltaic panel maintenance and forage dividends. Their annual income now exceeds 60,000 yuan (about KSh 1.17 million), more than three times what they earned from crop farming.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning hosted Regular Press Conference on October 22.📣
She said:
Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Djibouti Abdoulkader Houssein Omar in Beijing. They had an in-depth exchange of views on the Horn of Africa situation and the safety of shipping lanes across the Red Sea.
Both sides agreed that the recent escalation of tensions in the Red Sea has posed a serious threat to the global economy, especially the economic activities of regional countries in the Horn of Africa, and exacerbated security challenges such as piracy and terrorism. The two sides did not wish to see tensions in the region spill over into the Red Sea and called on relevant parties to observe the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, abide by the basic norms of international relations, and avoid escalating tensions in the region through dialogue and other diplomatic means. Both sides agreed that the Horn of Africa shall never become an arena for geopolitics, and the Middle East conflict should not spread to the Horn of Africa. Both sides underlined the importance of the freedom of navigation across the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, and stressed that the right of navigation that commercial ships from all countries are entitled to under international law should be respected.
Both sides believed that easing the Middle East situation is the key to settling security challenges in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea, and reaffirmed the support for restoring the legitimate national rights of the Palestinian people. The ceasefire agreement should be upheld, continued efforts should be made for lasting peace in Gaza, the two-State solution outlined in relevant UN resolutions should be implemented, and a peaceful and lasting settlement of the conflicts should be achieved through diplomatic means. Djibouti commended President Xi Jinping’s initiatives and proposals on promoting peace and security in the Middle East and the four principles on the constructive participation of relevant parties in the resolution of African hotspot issues, and expressed support for China playing a constructive role in the Middle East issue.
On October 23, Ambassador Guo Haiyan attended the opening ceremony of the Photo Exhibition Marking the 81st Anniversary of Taiwan's Restoration under the theme “remembering Taiwan’s restoration and advancing national reunification”.
Amb. Guo Haiyan noted that the restoration of Taiwan is a major victorious outcome of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War and forms an important component of the post-war international order.
China appreciates that Kenya abides by the one-China principle and supports all efforts by the Chinese government to achieve national reunification. We hope that our compatriots in Kenya continue to contribute to the great cause of national reunification and development of China-Kenya relations.
Kenya’s Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi Ng’ongo said the Belt and Road Initiative helps boost connectivity, trade and investment, and expand access to development finance amid global economic challenges, at the Annual Conference of Financial Street Forum 2026 on Wednesday.
What does a community with a shared future for humanity mean for the world?
It means choosing dialogue over confrontation, coexistence over dominance, and common development over zero-sum rivalry.
China is working with partners to turn this vision into reality.

World Insights: Xi's principles on settling Africa's hotspot issues resonate across continent
The four principles proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping for resolving Africa's hotspot issues have resonated across the continent, with diplomats, scholars and media professionals hailing them as timely and practical guidance for promoting peace and development in Africa.
The four principles -- adhering to the principle of "Africa-led," upholding fairness and justice, promoting ceasing hostilities for peace, and addressing both symptoms and root causes -- were put forward on Tuesday in Beijing during Xi's meeting with Faure Essozimna Gnassingbe, president of the Council of Ministers of Togo, who is on an official visit to China.
