In a fully automated factory, you wouldn't have machinists, you would have application engineers. You wouldn't have maintenance, you would have service engineers. Every position there would be more technical than what is demanded to operate a factory. Fewer overall people, but the ones that are there have a deep skill set. Finding these people isn't impossible if you're willing to throw a lot of money at them. Making them from scratch is almost easier, but it takes time. With the way things are moving, we don't have time. Unfortunately, we only have deadlines.
No matter how much hands-on experience I have, I find myself asking a hundred dumb questions a month just so I can answer five complicated ones later. Five years ago I knew a lot about machines, programming, and process. Now I can help build and service an entire factory floor.

Two LYNX 2100LMs and two DNM 4500s. I'm about a third of the way done with all 4. Next is the rotary tables and hydraulics.

This is my level of hustle. After already being clocked in for 12hr hours, I'm traveling 140 miles to be at the customer's facility by 6am tomorrow. I will have traveled over 320 miles today by the time I get to the hotel.

there’s a 59-year-old, family-owned Michigan machine shop that’s about to go under. 156 jobs, 152k sq ft of turning, broaching, heat treat, grinding and electroplating capacity they lost a big contract after investing in a new line someone should buy it. I suspect nobody will:

I have zero social media apps on my work phone. I have 12 security apps for emails, work order apps and file protection. You'd think I work for some skunk works developer. I do not. I'm just a service engineer building and fixing things. When one of these apps has a problem, you'd think the world has ended.

I did work for a one man outfit today. This guy is ex military and trying to grow his business. He started out making decoys for duck hunters and eventually bought some machines. Now he's making gears and just about whatever will accept his bid. Throw some work his way. RA Manufacturing LLC. share.google/mQCcX1NEnjjJSJQ…

Only thing missing is the batteries, and we should be able to put those in tonight as well. As always sorry for my crap camera skills Huge milestone for this project! #LazyCyberdeck #Steve #3DPrinting #MakerCommunity #CAD #RaspberryPi #AICAD #DIYElectronics @Raspberry_Pi

New video isn't the best but shows how the alignment kit works. Good new is, I got the alignment perfect the first time without an alignment kit. Bad news is, I got the alignment perfect and I will not resolve this with an alignment kit. So now more troubleshooting.
So I had to rebuild a tool changer arm, adjust the cam timing, and align it. Looks like I am very close, but when I watch it in slow motion, I'm slightly off. I will have to return with an alignment kit for a CAT50. It's not easy getting this perfect. It weighs 67 lbs and it's held on with a compression fitting. You have maybe a tolerance of .005" on the height to match the knockout. If both sides aren't perfect, you start dropping tools. These are 10" face mills and they weigh 40 lbs. They will destroy the way covers if they fall on them from that height.

He said "we had a little crash". Absolutely destroyed the hydraulics, sheared the pins, the gibs/turcite need replaced and mutilated the way covers.

There's a possibility that I'm fighting backlash in the servo, that's driving the cam.

Someone has an opportunity to make some money and help a guy out. I can get him new one's but we rarely deal in used machines.
I need inventory, I’m paying a minimum of $1000 for any leads on a machine or facility. Last commission was $5k on a lead that was for two mills. 👀

Second hand bookstore find. I was able to scoop all 3 for $25. Probably won't dig into them until the dead of winter.

Check out Steve's progress. For doing this in his spare time, this is amazing. @10_X_eng is top notch.
STEVE CAN CONTROL MACHINE TOOLS. I made an AI that can control my Syil X7. Not hobby tools, machine tools. Ones that you can buy from @titangilroy or from Dynamic @ChipHaze What a time to be alive. Github repo so you can build your own connectors below.

Ok, what makes Steve so interesting. This little box is what. If there is a technical path that will work, Steve just writes them on his own. I am not driving the technical direction of Steve... You are. It's the only platform where customers get what they ask for as close as technically possible. (Steve is a small project, so it can't do everything sry)
