How did Jerusalem's Christian quarter vote?
56% for the Arab Joint List (I'd assume because of the Communist Hadash party, but also many Muslims who live there).
Almost 20% vote for right wing and Haredi parties, obviously Jews who live in parts of the Christian quarter.

Outstanding piece on the Rohingya genocide case (Gambia v. Myanmar).
Four possible outcomes:
1. Genocide
2. Intent to displace, not destroy ('ethnic cleansing')
3. Crimes not connected by an intent to destroy a 'substantial part' of the group
4. Insufficient evidence

"Two of Israel’s leading human rights groups are sounding the alarm about a surge of mostly Palestinian inmates being shot by guards with rubber bullets at close range and, in some cases, suffering severe injuries."
22 testimonies and reports from attorneys, prisoners’ families, and released prisoners point to the dangerous practice of firing rubber- or plastic-like bullets at close range inside prison wings. Firing in confined, crowded spaces increases the danger posed by these bullets, particularly due to fragments and ricochets. Documented cases reveal severe injuries, including fractures and heavy bleeding, with some prisoners suffering irreversible harm.
Together with the @stoptorture_il , we sent an urgent letter to the Commissioner of the Israel Prison Service (IPS) and the Attorney General, demanding an immediate end to these firing practices inside prison cells and corridors.
Firing at prisoners at close range inside confined cells is not only a severe act of violence but also reflects a dangerous structural shift in how prison officers perceive their role: no longer as incarceration staff, but as an arm of a militarized and coercive system.
For some time, the IPS has been recruiting prison officers under the designation “incarceration combatants,” terminology that further militarizes the prison system and legitimizes the portrayal of prisoners as enemies on a battlefield. This shift treats prisoners’ lives as expendable, lowers the threshold for the use of force, and makes it easier to justify violence and resort to firearms. All of this is unfolding against the backdrop of the state’s declared war on Palestinian prisoners.
In light of the grave abuses committed against prisoners, these practices must not only cease immediately but also be subject to thorough, effective investigations into those responsible at the operational level, as well as those who enabled, permitted, endorsed, and normalized turning prison cells into firing ranges.

Israeli prisons are using rubber bullets from very close range on prisoners, especially Palestinian ones, according to multiple reports. The results are utterly devastating:
1) A prisoner at Ktziot lost a testicle after a rubber bullet hit him in June 2026. Soroka's medical document says it was "completely mangled." He says a guard had kicked him in the testicles during a strip search a week earlier. The Masada unit then fired "rubber bullets that looked like marbles" through his cell door window. He was hit in the testicle and behind the right knee and dragged about 50 meters while bleeding. "From what the prisoners described, I looked like a slaughtered animal." He was shackled and blindfolded, and clinic staff called him a "dog." (Haaretz, Oct 14)
2) A prisoner at Megiddo was shot in October 2025, which left a hematoma in his right thigh. He fell on the same thigh during a raid on his cell in February. In March, hospital scans found a broken pelvis, and he needs a total hip replacement. IPS says the fracture came from the fall. (Haaretz, Oct 14)
3) A prisoner at Shita was among four hit on September 29, 2025. He is a criminal prisoner. A Masada unit threw stun grenades at the cell door, ordered the prisoners to lie down with their hands on their heads, and then fired rubber bullets at them. Several bullets hit his legs. His lawyer says "a huge hole was created in my client's leg." He bled for a long time without treatment. (Ynet, Jan 2026)
4) A prisoner at Ktziot was shot at close range in April 2026 while kneeling with his hands on his head. About 40 prisoners had been crammed into one cell, and he puts the range at no more than two meters. "I heard a gunshot and felt pain in my left leg. At the same time I heard prisoners screaming in pain." Four prisoners were hit. All of them were made to lie face down with their heads near the sewage, and guards stepped on them. The wounded were put in solitary the next day. He went 15 days without proper treatment and had surgery only after his release. (Haaretz, Oct 14)
5) A prisoner at Ktziot had surgery to fix a broken left tibia after being shot in July 2026. The source is an IPS medical document. (Haaretz, Oct 14)
6) A prisoner at Nitzan was hit by a rubber bullet during a cell search in May 2024. He is a criminal prisoner. His lawyer describes "a large hole, the size of a tennis ball, and a deep wound." A judge ordered that he be sent to a doctor. (Ynet, Jan 2026)
7) A prisoner at Ofer was shot and tasered in the head after asking for scabies treatment. He had refused to go back into his cell until he got medication. (PHRI via Haaretz, Oct 14)
8) A cellmate of journalist Samer Khuwaira "had been shot with a rubber bullet from two meters away" for moving too slowly during a cell raid. The reprint places this in its Nafha section but doesn't name the prison outright. Khuwaira also describes guards firing four or five rounds into the ground in the yard. (Haaretz magazine, Oct 8, via Anadolu)
9) Journalist Ali Samoudi says guards "fired rubber bullets at naked prisoners in the showers" during a Ramadan raid. He was held at Ktziot and Megiddo. (Haaretz magazine, Oct 8, via Anadolu)
10) A former prisoner known as R., released from Ktziot in April 2025, says guards fired rubber bullets into cells at about 2 a.m. nearly every night. (Haaretz magazine, Oct 8, via Countercurrents)
11) An unnamed prisoner was told by doctors he "might need to have a limb amputated" because of complications from a rubber-bullet wound. The Palestinian Prisoners' Society also reported dozens of other cases with severe bleeding, some needing surgery. It gave no names, prisons or dates. (WAFA, Jul 20, 2026)
This is yet another cruel element of how Israel treats their prisoners. Other elements involve torture, rape, bestiality, murder, arbitrary punishment, deprivation and starvation. Many of these prisoners have not been charged with any crimes.

A report from the excellent Israeli human rights organization @btselem, documenting the systematic oppression in the West Bank. And American financial and diplomatic support makes the US complicit.
Israel is dismantling Palestinian collective life in the West Bank.
A catastrophe is unfolding across the West Bank. Checkpoints, expulsions, killings and land takeovers are not separate events or isolated human rights violations. They are part of the same system. It is time to connect the dots.
Our new report, The Elimination Project, shows how these mechanisms form one political project: dismantling Palestinian collective life while expanding Israeli control and Jewish presence.
Since late 2022, and especially since October 2023, this process has accelerated and become more openly violent. Palestinians live under constant threat from soldiers and armed settler militias. Since 7 October 2023, Israel has killed 1,107 Palestinians, including 245 children. State-backed settler farms and outposts seize vast areas, communities are expelled, and movement restrictions fragment Palestinian space.
Israel is also strangling the Palestinian economy, criminalizing political and social organizing, shutting down civil society organizations and arresting journalists and activists.
Together, these mechanisms cut Palestinians off from land, livelihoods and one another, dismantling the conditions they need to exist as a people – with institutions, leadership, shared history and a political future.
The Elimination Project is not new. Its logic has shaped Israeli policy for decades through dispossession, fragmentation, military rule and apartheid. In 2017, Bezalel Smotrich published the “Decisive Plan,” centered on making Jewish-Israeli control irreversible. It gives Palestinians three options: relinquish their collective aspirations and live under Jewish supremacy, leave, or face military repression. Under the current government, central elements of this vision are being translated into policy, budgets, powers and practices. In Gaza, this logic has reached its most extreme manifestation: the genocide Israel is committing there.
The international community must stop treating Israel’s violence and violations as isolated incidents, stop enabling Israel’s crimes, and end the impunity that allows the Elimination Project to continue.
Connect the dots. See the system.

This New York Times piece is damning. Former Israeli generals describe settler attacks in the West Bank as “Jewish terrorism” and serving “ethnic cleansing.” Meanwhile, they are accusing the current government and security establishment of enabling this campaign.
These aren’t outsiders making this case. They’re Israelis who spent their lives serving the state and who are now saying that what is happening in the West Bank is indefensible.
