Our latest @IRCaucus report with @timvorley on understanding the returns of @innovateuk funding for businesses and the economy here: ircaucus.ac.uk/publications/…
Since 2004, Innovate UK has injected more than £2.5bn to support business R&D/innovation in the form of grants, leveraging at least £4.3bn of associated private sector investment. This is a critical role in increasing the overall level of R&D investment in the economy and realising the Government’s ambition to make the UK a global hub for innovation by 2035.
The report estimates of the economic returns of Innovate UK grants based on information from thousands of UK businesses covering the 2008-2019 period.
Public investment in R&D/Innovation has produced a strongly positive boost to the UK economy, of £6.21 of value-added for every £1 Innovate UK invests. The findings highlight that three fifths of this impact is delivered to recipient businesses while two fifths is delivered as a wider effect on the UK economy.

I had 13 rejections of papers in 2021, and 2 acceptances. Just to show the young colleagues out there that behind every publication, there's typically a multitude of rejections. And yes: although I’ve been publishing for several years, it’s still tough not to take it personally.
