We can all agree the Sorsby/Texas Tech situation is an unfortunate byproduct of an imperfect system. What we don't agree on is how to fix it. Even if Congress passes NCAA legislation, it will only be a temporary band-aid. More lawsuits will follow. New loopholes will emerge. The boundaries will continue to be pushed. The reality is that major college football and basketball are professional sports. The athletes generating billions in revenue should be recognized as employees and afforded the rights that come with that status. Every major professional league—the NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL, MLS, and WNBA—operates through collective bargaining between the league and its players' union. Together, they establish the rules, regulations, enforcement mechanisms, and dispute-resolution processes that govern the sport. When circumstances change, they return to the bargaining table and adapt. Until college athletes have those same rights, the litigation will continue and the system will remain unstable. Congressional intervention may delay the reckoning, but it won't prevent it. Employment status, unionization, and collective bargaining aren't radical ideas, they're the inevitable destination. The sooner we start building that framework together, the sooner we can create a sustainable system for everyone involved.

My Unc Post of the Day: One of the most alarming trends in youth basketball over the last decade is the rise of “mixtape training.” I watch endless clips of players making 3-4 moves against ghost defenders in individual workouts. Then they try those same sequences in games. Does it work? Sometimes. Most of the time? No. Not every player is a scorer. Not every player is built to play isolation basketball. Yet almost all of them share the same weakness: they have no idea how to play without the ball. They’re either trying to get downhill off the dribble or standing at the three-point line watching someone else do it. The fundamentals are disappearing. Cutting. Screening. Reading help defense. Spacing. Rotating. Closing out with the correct hand. Navigating screens. Helping the helper. These aren’t advanced concepts. They ARE the game. Meanwhile, European players continue to close the gap and, in many cases, surpass us. Why? Their development model is different. They don’t spend all summer playing five games a day on the AAU circuit. They train. They learn. They study the game. They play once or twice a week and spend the rest of the time developing basketball IQ. In America, we’ve become obsessed with highlights instead of habits. We’ve confused skill work with basketball. And somewhere along the way, we’ve lost the plot. I watched a summer game yesterday and was blown away that only ONE player on the floor closed out shooters correctly. If the shooter was right-handed, his left hand was up challenging. If he was defending a lefty, he used his right. 20 years ago, that wouldn’t have stood out. It was just the norm. A shooter’s conversion rate drops by nearly 6% when the defender closes out the right way. How are we not teaching this anymore? <grumpy old coach signs off for the day>

Any group of hostile invaders of the US would fail. Americans are protective and armed to the teeth. But invaders that enter singing, drinking us out of beer and putting traffic cones on our statues we will embrace!! 🤣🤣 #worldcup #tartanarmy

A message to high school hoopers - I coached long enough to know this: College coaches don’t recruit potential nearly as much as they recruit readiness. They need to win NOW. The average D-I guard is 6’3”, 190+ pounds. The average forward is 6’8”, 220+ pounds. The average center is 6’11”, 240+ pounds. When freshmen arrive behind physically, catching up isn’t easy. And that’s only if they get offered in the first place. Skill and work ethic definitely matters, but your frame is part of your résumé, too. Look the part. You may not control your height, but you can control your strength. Start building your college frame before college asks you to use it.

Today's championship showdown pits the Boyd County Lions against the #1 team in the NATION, Trinity, according to MaxPreps. The Lions will need to be at their absolute best to raise the trophy. But in a one-off game, anything can happen. A 16th region team has won the state baseball title eight times. Of those 8 titles, three were won by teams which are no longer in the 16th region (Paintsville, *Maysville, and Prestonsburg). Of the remaining five titles, Ashland won three while East Carter (1984) and Boyd County (2001) have one each. Best of luck @BoydCoBaseball and bring it back to the 16th! 🦁💪🏼⚾️

Momcilovic would flip the entire narrative on Mark Pope during this recruiting season. With Momcilovic, UK would have a team built for a post-season run.
