Finally getting my two cents on face learning out there, after a very long incubation period:

Young and older adults spontaneously focus on information more likely to re-occur in the future when they learn face-name-semantic info associations. This strategy is linked to better memory performance but is subject to individual differences.

The more you know a face, the more it seems to stand out.

Sporting a stable look increases chances one is recognised in earlier stages of familiarisation compared to changing one's look. However, later on, when one has more media exposure, changing one's look help people memorise one's face more precisely.
Arnaud D'argembeau and I are recruiting one PhD student each to work on how we encode information gathered in the real world. The theses will focus on temporal compression in episodic memory or face learning.

I swear this clever sparrow recognises me. I’ve been sharing my croissant with her every morning for weeks. She always arrives before her buddies and I recognise the light spots by her ears.
She knows she doesn’t need to fight for crumbs too much with other birds cause I’ll throw more towards her. She’ll come at me and open her beak. She now shows up if I sit there at different times of the day and wait by my feet. Even if I’m not eating and someone else is! 💕🐥
Great face symposium at the APCV in Osaka with Alejandro Estudillo, Kaz Nakabayashi, @WieseHolger and Sakura Torii

Great talk at UNSW Sydney by @VicUniWgtn's @ChristelDevue, on "A cost-efficient mechanism of face learning". To learn about her recent work using #GameOfThrones to understand face recognition, check out her general readership article in @ConversationEDU: bit.ly/2SP9Fe1
Took about 6 weeks, 43 versions, and invaluable help and support from @ginagrimshaw, @rachelz, @H_Eisenbarth, Maree Hunt, Alia Martin, Tirta Susilo, Carolyn Wilshire, JP, & people @ RO, to reach the final click “submit grant application”. Thank you all, you’re amazing!
